I was charged with a felony ( which appears on my background check) , at its resolution I was convicted of a misdemeanor(crime is related to harming another individual). I entered nursing school, fully disclosed, knowing that upon completion, I was not guaranteed an opportunity to sit for NCLEX. When time, I submitted to the BON, an official transcript of the crime from the local courthouse. I submitted a detailed account of the incident like I was on trial, I illustrated the truth, told of how everyone around me was effected by my poor decision, I expressed remorse, and outlined the objectives on my track to turning my life around, along with supporting documents, providing evidence of completion of said objectives, including the completion of school. I had others to write character letters, (Clergy, instructors, my children's instructor's, employer's, my parent's) . Permission to sit obtained and license issued. Now, finding a job. Multiple interviews, as many offers, until the background check returns, so next strategy is to disclose prior to interview, as to not waste time. As Grace would have it, I stumbled across a locally-owned ALF, disclosed my situation, and because they were so poorly funded, an actual background check was not performed, and thus I have my first nursing job, PRN however, But it was a start, now I'm supervisor at another facility!
