Sorry I havn't posted more info. about medassurant.... a lot going on.... I will over the Thanksgiving break!!!! Can you give me any details about CCS?? Salary? from home?? fulltime.... anything (details) would be good)

CONGRATS on your CPC exam.... Heard that exam is intense!! YOU have to have experience before you can take it though??? Can't just take coding classes and then take it??? You don't need experience to take the exam. The course, although not required I would consider a must. CCS pays by the chart. Once you get your speed and accuracy up you can do OK. It is all from home and they just started offering full time positions although most of us are part time. Hope that helps.

congratulations to those who have found a unique path outside of the typical nursing hospital based career. coding audit is only one of the exiting fields of medical audit and offer independence such as working from home and other perks. hospital bill/claims audit, compliance audit for various entities such as hospitals, the government, commercial health plans are just a small sample of employment opportunities for medical auditors or nurse auditors. :loveya:

many of the successful medical auditors started as hospital nurse auditors working in the finance or billing department, few had um or cm backgrounds. the government needs nurse auditors for a number of government audits - the rac, mic or cert audits.

there is a national association of medical auditors you can join ==> american association of medical audit specialists. you can be certified as a cmas. this can be a great adjunct to any coding certification.

Hello: Finally getting back to you about the training at medassurant. Sorry took so long:crying2:. First 4-6 weeks: CARA training (Capitation risk adjustment training), Quality department preceptor program, (given materials needed for this), over-reader class via webinar, HcPro Coding class for nurses only. So they fully train you!!! In order to be certified (which was brought up to me at my interview) you would need more coding training. (most likely) They just teach you VERY basic coding that is needed to do their charts and overviews ect. So I hope that this helps........... Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: Love the new job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The time goes by very quick and I have found this company to be very friendly with A LOT of growth potential!!

I just resubmitted my resume to CCS (1st time was in November)-just got an email back stating no openings right now...I was wondering if you may have heard anything re: future openings?...as always, your input is very appreciated!

I submitted my resume Nov of 2008 and wasn't hired until April 2009 and didn't actually start to work until June 2009. They are bringing on new coders for new accounts all the time, you just have to be patient. Since I started working last June I know they've hired about 40 additional people. I also heard that some waited up to a year to be called.

I'm so excited to see that I can combine my nursing knowledge with coding. I have a couple of questions. For those of you who are certified, are you a CPC or do you have any letters after CPC? Did you need to take the Anatomy and Medical Terminology classes through AAPC?
