Hi, I will soon by a college graduate with a BS in psychology...but I want to get into nursing! I am in need of expert opinions so was wondering...is RN license from a city/junior college suffice...or is a BSN needed? Under what conditions would a BSN be preferred over AA in nursing? I need to start applying to schools in a few months or so and am split on whether to just attend city college or find a program that will issue me a second bachelor.
I'm from San Francisco and I want to be living at home, so any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Have you taken any of the pre-reqs to get into nursing school whether it's for a BSN or AA degree? You need to take Anat and Physiology, Microbiology, Nutrition, English Writing, Speech, etc. Look at some of the other forums because this has been discussed at length. See pre-nursing programs and general nursing discussions. You can also pose your questions there.

A junior college associate degree in nursing (ADN) is fine as long as it's accredited by the state board of nursing. Just check the Board of Nursing website here for approved programs.

Most California schools have waiting lists so, you may not have much of a choice between ADN and BSN programs. These days, you're lucky to get into any program, and there are a lot more ADN than BSN programs.
If you go ADN, you can then get your BSN online after you graduate. But a BSN is not required to practice as an RN in California.
