I am seeking a nurse in an advanced practice role to interview via e-mail for a school assignment; would anyone be willing to help me?
I am interested in anyone practicing as a CNS, primary care NP, ACNP, CNM, CRNA, or case management.
Primarily, I would like to know:
* Your work setting and practice environment?
* What challenges and opportunities you face in your advanced practice role?
* What you like best about your role?
* What would you change about your role?
Many, many thanks to anyone would who be willing to answer these questions for me! It should be a fairly quick and easy thing to do.
Please PM me.
Really? 20 people have read this message, and nobody is willing to help me?
(bump)
Please? Your confidentiality will be maintained at all times, of course. Much appreciation to any APN who can answer the above questions for me.

Hi there, I'm sorry there aren't any responses. Maybe you'll get more hits from APN's if you post in the Advanced Practice Nursing forum. Anyway, ACNP here and I'll try to answer your questions.
1. Work setting: Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU of an academic, tertiary hospital located in an urban setting. Practice environment: Belongs to a group of critical care nurse practitioners employed by Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Critical Care Services. Collaborative practice model with physician intensivists from the same department of the hospital.
2. Challenges: Hospital is a regional referral center performing numerous high risk heart and lung surgeries including heart and lung transplants, ventricular assist devices, repair of aneurysms and aortic dissections, coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements and repairs. Patients present very sick in the ICU, very challenging as far as patient management.
Opportunities: Lots of opportunities to learn difficult scenarios as far as hemodynamics, ICU skills, performance of invasive procedures such as lines and bedside procedures.
3. Like the autonomy best and the support from many of the physicians.
4. Wish the hours are better but that's the nature of the beast - it's a 24-hour operation and patients need to be watched closely.
If there's anything else you need to know and questions I did not answer to your liking, PM me.
