Relocating to Chesapeake

As a CNA what salary can be expected? I only have 2 yrs experience (LTAC, Hospital Rehab, ER, Med/Surg & Corrections). I've also worked 7 of my hospital months concurrently as a Unit Secretary. I was looking into an LPN program (since it all has to come out of pocket, no aid I'm maxed out) there too. My target is the Virginia Beach School of PN. Currently I'm in Las Vegas, NV working home health getting $13.25/hr with no benefits. In the hospital I got $16.25/hr.

It's tough getting information being so far away. I'd prefer an RN program but nonresident tuition would kill me. I'm also 37. My girlfriend (35) thinks it'll be better than here in Vegas. I would love and greatly appreciate any advice from those in Virginia (Chesapeake, Portsmouth & Virginia Beach areas).

When I worked as a CNA the pay was $10-12 but that was in 2008 so I am sure the pay has increased. Where I worked was in Norfolk at a long term care facility. If you work at Bon secours or Sentara hospital they do offer tuition assistance to go back to school. The two best schools in the area for nursing is Tidewater community college which you only get your ADN but its a lot cheaper and the other school that is really good is Old Diminion University.

Check out Sentara BSN program in Chesapeake. They charge the same rate for in state and out of state. Plus there are programs here that help with the cost. One place is Opp inc that will give u up to $10,000 towards a health care program

Thanks all but sadly my gf and I have parted ways. She's going to Virginia and I'm staying in Nevada. Maybe that'll change but for now it's highly improbable.

Change of plans. My gf is 2 mos pregnant. I'm doing the LPN program at CSN in Nevada. I'll be done May '14. She's staying until I finish. I'm looking at Sentara when I do finish. We're still a couple.
