Question for nurse educators

Hello,

I am what I still consider a new grad. I am currently working in a step down ICU. I am also in school now to get my BSN. My goal is to one day become a nurse educator. However, I think I would also like to be a school nurse at some part in my career. Is it unheard of for a school nurse to become a nurse educator with further nursing education?

It is not unheard of. But to be honest, you'll need more of a variety than just school nursing. The step down will give you that. If I were you, I wouldn't cut myself off from hospital nursing completely. The beauty of school nursing is that you will have time to work per-diem (weekends, vacations, summers) in the hospital. Definitely, do not lose touch with what's going on there.
