Question for any CRA's

I am considering a research position that did not specifically state RN required. I know it is common to have unlicensed people in these positions, but I am wondering if it counts as "nursing" in terms of license renewal hours? Is anyone in a CRA role, and if so, do you have trouble maintaining your license? Thanks!!!

Check with your state BON. In my state, as long as I do my CEUs and pay my renewal I am good to go.

I don't know where you live but I know of several programs online and locally in MA that have clinical training programs that offer CEU hours. The one I am enrolling in is at BC but since I am not yet a nurse it won't count as credits or CEUs. You might also try checking out info on the ACRP.org website for people in clinical research.

I am currently working as a CRA and find it difficult to obtain my CEUs only because I am use to the hospital providing CEU programs free of charge. Now I have to find opportunities myself and take vacation time to attend them if they are during the week.

There are many websites or organizations that offer online CEUs. These are usually inexpensive. In order to be considered licensed you still need to meet the requirements of the state or region in which you practice no matter what type of nursing you do. Being a nurse definitely helps with monitoring of clinical trials and understanding the disease the research is being conducted for. My state does not require CEUs to maintain a license. Being certified as either a CRA or coordinator you are required to have a certain number of CEUs to maintain certification. These can be done through many online sites. If you are interested in being a CRA or clinical research nurse go for it.
