Does anyone have a good video on suctioning? Is deep throat suctioning only for respiratory therapists? I have this total care patient, vegetative state basically, who may need suctioning but I don't want to cause her harm. It is hard to find help in my facility when I need it. To me it would be more precise to use a catheter rather than a Yankeaur tip even though they don't have a trach. Suctioning almost seems fruitless without stimulating the reflex to cough if secretions are heard in the lungs. I have seen nurses just suction the mouth.
Any suggestions/advice?
