  1. Hi there everyone :) I'm a senior nursing student starting my last semester before I graduate. I was able to get a practicum spot at my top choice for children's hospital. I'm nervous because I wasn't able to get clinical experience for most of the pandemic, and I feel unprepared. I haven't done any hands on skills in months, I wanna avoid looking stupid. I've never actually been on a pediatrics floor so it is going to be a major learning experience. If anyone has some words of wisdom for advice when it comes to my senior practicum, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)
  2. Thank you SO much! You have no idea how much I appreciate you answering me -- and even making an account just to answer me! I really appreciate it, and I totally am feeling how you did in high school (needing advice). Thank you!! :):):)
  3. I can definitely say I don't have a great story to tell either. The point of the post was really just to get to hear different nurses' stories! Just a note --- if you read the title of the thread and don't like the question, you don't have to answer!
  4. I'd love to read that article whenever you've finished it! I agree on the importance of seeing value in what you do! :) Yeah, making a difference really is a great feeling!! Haha! wow 3rd generation!! I'll be a first gen. nurse but my grandmother always wanted to be one, but she never had the opportunity to become one. I'm happy to hear it turned out well for you! I am seriously considering a military nursing career, if you could PM me, i have a few questions! I never really thought about people having that point of view before, very insightful. Wow, that sounds like a life changing experience -- when my aunt had her first baby, and I saw all the wonderful nurses working in hospital is definitely when I knew nursing was for me. I'm glad you only hate it twice a week haha! I'm definitely hoping to do that! Haha, free food's always a plus!
  5. Hi, I'm a high school senior right now and I want really in-depth answers to my questions. 1) which, in your opinion, is the best route to become an AF nurse? ROTC? I don't really know any other ways to do it. Do some people go to school and then join the army? 2) what's the difference between joining the AF nursing in just the Air Force or the AF Reserve? 3) do nursing grads go through the COT if they did it through ROTC? If not, in what scenarios do nurse grads have to participate in COT? 4) how do I specifically search for healthcare recruiters? I can only find non-healthcare specific recruiters. 5) when you enter the AF, is it 4 years of AD (active duty) and then 4 years reserve? On those 4 years of reserve are you free to move where you want? 6) what made you decide to be an AF nurse? How do I know if it's the right choice for me?
  6. I feel the same way with the scrubs!! So comfy :) I totally understand. I personally do get a thrill when helping others, but all of us have different reasons for choosing this career -- thanks for sharing! :) I'm doing this to the end too, haha! So many years of experience, wow!! How were you able to take care of patients so young?
  7. Wow, I had a really similar experience. I originally chose nursing, but then I decided to do pre-med, and I came back to nursing. I personally detest school so as little school as possible was the route to go!
  8. I'm really sorry to hear about your experience! I hope it improves somehow!
  9. I personally chose it because I love the medical/hospital environment, and I really enjoy helping others.
