Thank you so much, Preemie! My mom actually just accepted a position in the same area that you are in now and she absolutely loves it! I am honestly so happy for you that you landed this interview! I will be praying that God takes away any anxiety or doubts going in, and that they see the determination and true passion you have within you to work with the neonates and their families!! You've got this!!

An Honest Thank You!!
I just wanted to come to you all as a newbie to the allnurses.com scene! I have just been offered the position of my DREAMS in the NICU (level iiiB) and I can't thank everyone on here enough for all of the time and effort you pour into us new graduates looking to pass our boards and find work! From the many posts/threads about how to prepare for an interview and the NCLEX, to the pep-talks and the supportive messages, you push us all to do our best, you believe in us, and you give the best advice around!!! My heart is honestly SO full right now and I wanted to say THANK YOU!!! As for other new graduates like me, I urge you all to go for your dreams and seek out what you truly feel is your calling and DO NOT give up!! When I applied to the NICU position at this facility, my application was almost immediately denied and I received an email saying I was not considered for the position by the end of the week, but I reapplied immediately to the SAME POSITION because I figured it was worth the try! I prayed and prayed and getting a call for an interview for this position, as a new grad was the last thing I thought I would receive, but I DID. I interviewed today, I spoke from the heart, I was honest, and was offered the position 2 hours after the interview! I am not saying that this method of reapplying will work for everyone, but PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP and PLEASE TAKE CHANCES!!! GO FOR WHAT YOU WANT!! If it is where you feel that you are meant to be, you will eventually end up in the position of your heart's calling!! Please remember that it is not a question of if it will happen, but a question of when it will happen!! I must say that I do not believe this would have been possible for me without the support of the wonderful nurses on this website, my eagerness to seek out the position that I know in my heart of hearts is my calling, and the power of Jesus Christ!! GOD IS SO GOOD!!!!! PRAISING HIS NAME ALL THE WAY THROUGH!!!!!!

The nurse that assesses the newborn immediately after delivery??
Hi everyone! During my OB clinical, I followed a "transition nurse" (RN) and absolutely fell in LOVE with the position! She was the nurse that attended all lady partsl deliveries and assessed the newborn/APGAR, cleans baby, does shots, erythromycin etc.. At this hospital, I believe the transition nurse was also the one who attended the c-sections and devoted all of their care to the newborn. I just graduated and I have tried to search for the job title newborn "transition nurse" and the position seems so uncommon. I would really like to become this type of nurse who works with babies... What is this nurse typically called?? At your hospital do you all have "transition nurses" or is this care typically something that the L&D nurse does? Nursery nurse? Thanks!

St. Louis: SSM Futures Program, New Grad, NICU
Thanks! I actually sent in my application, and received an email to set up a phone interview the same day! Today, I had my interview and about 5 minutes after, received the email to complete the essay and the recommendations. Interview was not too hard! Yes, unfortunately it was too late for me to interview for the June cohort, so if I make it through I will be a part of the September group. Thanks for your insight!

St. Louis: SSM Futures Program, New Grad, NICU
Hi everyone! I am a new grad looking to move to St. Louis. It has been my dream to work in mother/baby;NICU;special care nursery etc.!!! (have not taken NCLEX yet) I am a recipient of the HRSA Nurse Corps Scholarship Program, which means I am required to work in facilities in a health professional shortage area. Under SSM Hospitals, cardinal glennon is the only facility that qualifies. I was looking into the futures program, but was unsure of how the process worked, especially with my particular situation. Would I be able to choose the facility I wanted to work in? Is the futures program the only way I would be able to get into the NICU at Cardinal Glennon? Thanks in advance!!!

HELP-- New Grad Planning to Move to St. Louis
hi unifye, I have looked at St. Mary's before and I would love to apply, but my scholarship prevents me from being able to apply to this facility. As a recipient I am required to work in a facility with an HPSA (health professional shortage area) score of 14 or above for two years, st. Mary's does not fall under this requirement :( I am interested in finding out more about this futures program! I believe under ssm, Cardinal glennon is the only one that qualifies as far as my scholarship.

HELP-- New Grad Planning to Move to St. Louis
Hi etuttle1! i would PM, but unfortunately as a new member on the site it won't allow me to. I did have a few questions though... Can you tell me a bit more about the futures program? Are you guaranteed a position through this program? Also, if I were to apply, under my scholarship, I believe that the only hospital that qualifies is cardinal glennon. Would I be able to choose the hospital and specific unit I would like to work in? Thanks!!

HELP-- New Grad Planning to Move to St. Louis
Hi, thanks for the reply! I would PM you, but allnurses.com is not allowing me to do that because of their requirement of having 15 topics before having privileges to PM other members. I did have a few questions though. Do I need to have my license before applying to NICU/ICU positions at children's? Also, do they have a residency program for new grads?

HELP-- New Grad Planning to Move to St. Louis
Hi Everyone!! I just graduated from my nursing school with a BSN and recently decided that I would like to make the move to STL to begin my nursing career. I have not taken the NCLEX yet, but plan to in early June. I am a current recipient of the HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program, so unfortunately this is severely diminishing my opportunities as far as finding a hospital that fulfills my service obligation to the scholarship. :( Two hospitals under BJC health that are approved by the scholarship include: Barnes Jewish Hospital and Children's. Under SSMH is Cardinal Glennon and SLU Hospital. After going through the OB rotation I have realized that my top choices would be to work in 1) newborn "transition nurse" 2)NICU/Special Care Nursery 3) Mother/Baby I want this so badly and would LOVEEEEEE to work in any of these areas!!!!!! I have already submitted an application for Graduate Nurses through BJC (have not yet received any calls for an interview), but I have heard that through this application process, graduates are typically hired into oncology, med/surg. For anyone who is familiar with these hospitals, does anyone know if it is even a possibility for a new grad to be hired into these areas at these particular STL hospitals????
