  1. Yup I'm considered a pre-nursing major, but I don't have to apply to get into the nursing program because I'm already guaranteed admission. I think that's what @nursing5275 Was trying to explain. A program that allows you to take all of the nursing pre-reqs, and not have to worry about applying again to actually get into the nursing program
  2. Yup np! So all you need to worry about is getting into mills or hnu and then from there just maintain good grades and do well on the teas. Good luck :)
  3. Like I said, Mills and HNU, are in partnership with Samuel Merritt. So you don't need to apply to get into Samuel Merritt. You are GUARANTEED admission if you maintain at least a 3.0 at either Mills or HNU and pass the TEAS (test of essential academic skills). Samuel Merritt is the actual Nursing program, where you do your clinicals etc, while Mills and HNU is where you take your core nursing science classes.
  4. It is required, I'm taking it this Fall. At mills we complete the nursing curriculum classes like A&P, micro, etc. Then move onto Samuel Merritt, where we do clinicals and take pharm, patho, etc. It's a program between two different schools.
  5. Hi, I'm also currently 20 years old and I also struggled with figuring out how to get into a BSN program when almost every single one in the Bay Area is impacted. The route that I decided to take is the private school route. I went to community college for 2 years at DVC, didn't take any of the science pre-reqs (Anatomy, Physio, Ochem, Micro) Except for Nutrition and also bio, Chem, etc. I applied to Mills College in Oakland which has a 2+2 program with Samuel Merritt University. Meaning you spend 2 years at the sister school (1 year in my case since I'm a transfer student) and then you are guaranteed admission into SMU contingent on a few requirements like maintaining a 3.0 and getting a passing score on the TEAS. That's one route that you can go. Mills is an all women's school though, but you can look into Holy Names University, which also is part of the 2+2 program with SMU. Another really good BSN program is USF. Though private schools can be expensive, SMU and USF from what I've heard are very well regarded by hospitals in the Bay Area and they provide you with a really good education. Or you can apply directly to SMU if you've already completed most of your pre-reqs, but I've been told this route is more competitive. Best of luck to you !
  6. I'm going to a private school this upcoming fall (as a pre-nursing transfer student) and the tuition is crazy expensive. My advisor gave me two options: stay for 2 semester before going to Samuel Merritt (which will save me a lot of money) v. 3 semesters (which will be a little bit easier, but I'd have to take out more loans). My question is, do you think it'll be too much to take on if i were to choose the 2 semester path? Has anyone ever taken two science classes with lab in one semester together? (I have no kids and I'm probably not going to be working at all, meaning I'm going to be super broke, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for nursing school.) 2 semester schedule fall: Anatomy w. Lab Microbiology w. Lab Sociology History Spring: Physiology w. Lab Organic chemistry w. Lab Interpersonal communication If I were to do three semesters I would probably have to take Microbio during my 3rd semester, along with other filler classes. Thank you for any advice!
  7. Mills college and Holy Names University don't require completion of pre-reqs. Both of these schools are in the 2+2 program with Samuel Merritt University which also has a really good BSN program. (Plus I heard that it is easier going through a sister school to get into SMU rather than applying there directly) I went to community college for 2 years and I didn't take Anatomy, Physio, Micro, or Ochem yet. I only took Intro to Bio, Intro to Chem, and Nutrition and I got accepted to Mills. You should check out their website for more info!
