UCLA MSN 2019
@jordan808 FNP. I was just wondering if some people knew something I didn’t lol I saw some of the electives and was wondering how people might be considering which one to take to stay full time for the fall quarter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you take the research course in the summer, you'd have to take an elective in the fall because we need to have a minimum of 12 units each quarter. For those who are taking that route, how are you planning on which elective to take?

@Ayo RN BSN Oh ok cool! So are you going to take an elective for the fall instead? Sorry, so many questions! Lol I just thought about enrolling in the summer research course as well but then I’d be short units for the fall quarter... Wasn’t super sure on which elective I’d want to take. *side note* if anyone who got admitted is looking for a place to stay near the area, I’m on the hunt as well. Tag me if interested!

@Ayo RN BSN Oh, I see! Is that the undergrad research requirement (N173) or the research course that we have an option to take in the summer (N204)?

@Ayo RN BSN Nursing Assessment—is that a separate class you're taking?

I'll be taking the physical assessment class as well. Taking an online physio course at UCSD extension that starts in April just to get that out of the way. If anyone was interested, here's the link: https://extension.ucsd.edu/courses-and-programs/human-physiology it's on the list of approved courses.

@VXM Shoot. Totally missed that... I figured I wasn't eligible! I didn't really consider grants/scholarships/fellowships until the e-mail. Hopefully it's not too late under these circumstances. Hang in there @Pushing_Daisies My last name begins with the letter A, so I thought maybe that might be the case! (Plus I had JUST got done reading previous classes' DB posts and that was one of their theories). @jaylesso24, thanks for sharing your stats. I'm having some impostor syndrome going on... That helps to confirm, I think I'm OK! Ha. Looks like older classes started an FB page, shall we?

Moving to Los Angeles, thoughts on best hospital to work for as an RN?
Thank you for your input! Well, simply put, I want to move to a new an exciting area still in California. I grew up in the SF bay area, went to school in Sacramento, and currently working in the San Joaquin Valley--I love NorCal but something in me is really excited about the idea of living in sunny LA. I've been visiting the area often for multiple reasons and now I'm really starting to consider it. To answer your second question, SF itself is great! I couldn't tell you much about living/working in SF though. My only information would be from what my friend who works at SF General has told me. I think he said he started at around $65/hour as a new grad with rent being about the same as what you have mentioned living near UCLA. Only difference is I feel like there are many more good options if you decide to live outside of SF to save money. To work in the bay area, I hear, is awesome--great pay, happening cities with affordable decent areas to live.. I'm a little claustrophobic to live in SF so I prefer something like Berkeley or Oakland.. San Jose even. I work in San Joaquin valley which is 40 min away from the farthest east bay area city. The pay is also good with the cost of living being cheaper as with any city farther from the coast... Which is my main concern with moving to LA in the first place. From the posts I've seen on here from a few years ago, I would be taking a significant pay cut with no change (& if anything an increase in) cost of living... I was hoping things have changed a little and I wouldn't have to make too much of a budget adjustment by moving down there. I've always wanted to work at a teaching hospital, especially having done most of my clinical rotations at UCD Medical Center. I will definitely look into UCLA!

Moving to Los Angeles, thoughts on best hospital to work for as an RN?
I know this is an old post, but I am hoping to get some updated information on RN jobs in the LA area as I have been considering moving down there as well. I have about two years of acute care experience in tele and ER. My main concern is pay & the cost of living. Seemingly cost of living is about the same as up here in the bay area yet the pay for nurses is lower. Is this true? Any opinions in general or knowledge on pay for someone with about the same experience would be greatly appreciated!
