  1. I tried to leave a comment on the thread on my phone app but I don't think it posted. Congrats to y'all who made it in! I'm looking forward to meeting you in January if you accept your spot! Let me know if you have any questions about the program (and specifically at the Round Rock campus). I'm always happy to share my experiences.
  2. I'll say all of the above. I stay very organized, study consistently (without cramming). I also roll with changes and respect the rules and instructors that are in place. I'm doing well with all A's and 1 B in each of my 2 semesters so far.
  3. Good luck with applying, everyone! Once finals are done Wednesday, I will be halfway through the program at the Round Rock campus. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. A lot of the info I found on here last year was kind of outdated. It's an intense program (aren't they all?), but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
  4. Yes - just finishing is the goal, and in the 4:30-4:45 so I know that affords a little flexibility with whatever training schedule I'm on. So it sounds like I'm not totally crazy thinking I can try to pull it off. If I can maintain at least a base level of fitness through the spring semester (when I have to take 19 credit hours), I can start picking up the effort in the summer and fall to prepare for one in December or January of next year. Fortunately in Central Texas, we have many options within an hour or two drive that time of year. Thanks for the input, everyone!
  5. Wow, ToughRNMudder326! I'm exhausted thinking of all those races - during nursing school or not. :-) I have a good treadmill and typically read/study while I run, but I attribute my ability to stay injury-free the last several months (I have been prone to overuse injuries in the past) to being able to run 90% of that high mileage outside, so being on the treadmill so much for training was a concern. Listening to lectures while I run is a great idea, so I will definitely give that a shot, so I can still get the best of both worlds of study time and outside running. And it can help with the guilt of leaving my family for a few hours on Saturday mornings for my long runs since I'm basically studying during that time. Half marathons crossed my mind (they are my favorite distance, actually) but since I've already done a handful, I was hoping to get that full one in.
  6. I start my ABSN program in January, which I am so unbelievably excited about. I left my full-time job in June to be a SAHM for a few months before I presumably would be busier than ever in school. To fill some of my extra time, I decided to train for a marathon, so I could have it under my belt before my program started. I made it all the way through my training healthy and injury-free and got hit with a bad kidney infection 2 weeks before the race. Between the illness and the particular antibiotic that was prescribed, I opted to pull out of the race. Now I find myself feeling completely unfulfilled from working so hard toward that unrealized goal and yet staring at the "marathon" of nursing school for the next 15 months. Has anyone managed training for a marathon while in an ABSN program (or even a traditional program), all while managing family commitments (kiddos are 7 & 4)? Any suggestions on good training programs that might work for time-crunched schedules?
  7. I got accepted! I'm full of questions. What are the demographics such as how many parents, how many working? Number of 2nd career vs just graduated with their first degree? Is everyone you started with still in the program? What is the reading load like? Anything you wish you had been warned about other than the standard "nursing school is so challenging" comments? What are your overall impressions of the program?
  8. I have the group set up. Not sure if this link will work, but here it is. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1507159272871001/members/ If not, do a search for "TAMHSC-Round Rock CON - 2nd Degree Class of 2016" and just request to be added.
  9. You can send your FB name in a PM so we don't lose anonymity on here.
  10. If you got accepted and are on facebook, can you send your FB name? I will set up a group so we can start geting to know each other virtually between now and orientation. It appears I can't set it up without inviting at least 1 other person.
  11. Haven't seen one...
  12. It's possible they are going in groups somehow, like a few people a day or something to see who accepts their spot or turns it down. Not sure though. But it's not a no either at this point, so hopefully you'll get good news soon.
  13. Notices are starting to come in. I just got mine and I got accepted!!!!
  14. I'll just have to settle for obsessively checking my job application status for what I interviewed for last week until then. :-) I'm driving my hubby a little bit crazy between the two.
