Some of us on FB have been talking and we were wondering what comes in those med kits that we get for the first semester? 2. What extra things do we need to buy ex: BP cuff? Penlight? 3. If you bought the book pack from the school how do the online books work? 4. Is the brookhaven logo on the scrubs iron on or is it embroided? Hehe I am currently rereading Harry Potter thanks to some advice from people to relax, I feel like Im gathering school supplys for Hogwarts Now where do I get a owl lolz jk. :tinkbll:

I was wondering, I have all my BSRN pre reqs for Texas Womans, but I took most of them at 3 different community colleges. Can the university's make me retake classes to get my BSRN from them once I get my RN from Brookhaven?

Yay Fortylove! I am so excited! To help with the confusion these are the people on allnurses that are also on the FB group lol. I had to do this so I knew who was who lol. All of us are going to Fall 2011 and graduating Dec2012. I removed the real names for privacy reasons. Ashlee067 Hmarie Alum08 Lupe1058 Kinckymarcia itsnvrulupus Hobbits I am really glad we are all getting to know each other because when it comes to clinicals and questions about school we wont have to worry about not knowing who to ask. Plus thanks to Ashlee lots of us are going to meet for CPR. Knowing we will have friends the first day will really help me sleep at night, so thank you all for staying connected and being so nice. I think we are off to a good start!

We can handle it though! *edit* Can someone give me some height plz... Im 5ft O.o my problem with pants is they drag on the floor. I would like about 4-5 inches taller if anyone has some to spare.

Fortylove, I want to play tennis, I just joined lifetime and they have racketball. Lately I have just been swimmin laps because I am so out of shape. (when I say laps I mean I try to do laps haha) Congrats on your 2 kids and spending time on them :) I :heartbeat kids, we are planning for 3 kiddos and he promised me girls hehe. One of the reasons I am losing weight is so we can be a healthy family. I wonder what the diffrence is between end of life and the class I am taking. Mine takes the place of the end of life credits, its called death and dying, its psyc 2371 for psycology majors. End of life was full so this was my only option, but I have also learned a lot and really enjoyed it I have a finall in there and Im done. My friends keep telling me to relax, but I am the type of person that likes to work toward a goal, in fact if I am not I get kinda cranky. I have gone through a lot just to get to this point, and now all I want to do is get ready, study, and review so that I can go through RN school without fear of failing or killing someone, or going back to my old life/crap jobs. Peoples lives will depend on us, I dont want to look at them and not know what I am doing... or even worse do something wrong and hurt them more. I feel like I was given a gift, a chance at being an RN and when I think about it, all I can do is smile.

I learned stuff!!!! I posted this on FB group the other day too. First of all ! Its so cute!!! Maybe we can do something similar for graduation class of Dec2012 Tehe.CPR: Ashlee was telling us on FB that she signed up for the Brookhaven CPR for health prof, I did too. May 7 from 8am-4pm I got my CPR packet and the class cost me $68 it was in the continuing education window by admissions in S building. I asked if they had more room and they said yes 26 slots. If your interested give them a call: (972) 860-4600 (tell them u want CPR) they need your student id, you can pay over phone or go in person. Either way you need to pick up your packet required for the class ahead of time. Shots: I went to talk to Denton county health dept phone:972-434-4700 and asked about titer and immunization costs. The nice lady said the titers are very expensive and the vaccines are not and that most nursing students they get just redo the shots because like Ashlee said it has been over 7 years. We pretty much need 3 shots, TB test and the proof of our Hep B series. The one you have to watch for is the varicella because you need 2 doses each are about $20 (which was cheaper then everyone else, I hope she was correct) so thats $40 and needs to be started by June(play it safe). The MMR vaccine which covers measles, mumps and rubella was $20. The last one is the DPT which is diphtheria pertussis, and tetorifice and that was also $20. The TB test needs 48 hours (its in the skin they make a bubble, then you come back in 48 hrs and they check it and sign your paper) and was $10 so all together there is 3 shots and TB totaling about $90 and no apt needed if you go to denton county health next to the DMV in Lewisville. Make sure you print that immunizations paper from the Brookhaven website under success camp!!! Basically you need proof of: (Hep B x3, Varcella x 2, MMR, DPT, & TB) PLEASE correct me if I am wrong or missing something! Went to half price books yesterday turned in a box full of books (making room for my new nursing books) and picked up a pharm book for $8 looks new so I could practice dosages and conversions. Mainly because those darn hesi tests love math from what I hear. My fiancée and I are re-organizing our little apt to simplify our lives. Throwing out clothes, putting away things we wont be using for a long time, cleaning out storage, bookshelves, pantry/fridge... I even cut my hair. Things need to be simple so that I don't spend 2 hours looking for a scrub top, and I don't want to dig through 2 year old frozen food to grab a TV dinner. Next on the list is my car. Fortylove: Lol a book for fun? What is this you speak of?!? You mean.. like a book about nurses? Thats a good idea keep me motivated!!! Haha jk thanks thats a good idea, I may reread harry potter just for fun. What are you doing for fun this summer? Briterz: I couldnt find you on FB, try adding me: *edit* so before I posted this I saw that I am getting in trouble for posting links from Allnurses.com, I may have to stop. I didn't know that was a no no.

Yes I highly recommend these, I used these to study for patho while I was in it. They cover all the main points and give helpful ways to remember with their silly pictures. On the back of the cards it goes into detail. I didn't know they were this expensive, when my friend got into UTA's program she borrowed mine to help get her ready and said it helped. I'm so glad she gave them back recently or I wouldn't have remembered I had them lol. Good luck sugarmagnolia018 your off to a good start! *Edit* (because I dont want to double post) So I just found out one of my friends from Microbiology(we studied together) got in Spring 2011 and I friended her on facebook and went through her school pictures!!! Those green scrubs look awesome! I like how they put the Brookhaven logo on it and it has our name all professional and special! I'm so EXCITED!!!

Thanks for sharing narussian! Did I hear maybe laptops!?!? *dances* I hope I get those teachers!!! Im sad about those fitted scrubs, I am a big girl and fitted = bad. Maybe I should try them on before spending money. *Questions* 1. How many nursing programs are going on at once? 2. Do the teachers stick with one group or do we get a mix? 3. Any guesses on how much the book packs cost for the first semester?

Last night I had a nightmare about RN school. I was sitting there waiting for class to start on the first day and all of a sudden this teacher said hand in all your papers... I was like huh?!? we had homework on the first day? And the people next to me are like yeah, it was on evolve... I was like OMG I haven't logged in yet, I don't remember my password! I started to cry then I woke up. I think stress management is something I already need to work on heh... Sweetpea your soo right... I need to relax lol.

Thanks Lupe Im so excited!!!! I wish this semester was over already so I can start studying lol... as nerdy as that sounds! Things I plan to study thanks to Sweetpea and ktosch: Patho study cards Pharm study cards Hope these are enough to refresh my brain lol. They have pretty pictures so they are easyer on the eyes then a boring review but I feel like I learn the same amount. Anyone have any other study tips or ideas?

Brookhaven Nursing Program
I made a facebook group for our new class Fall 2011 that anyone attending brookhaven is welcome to join. I have a feeling this will be very helpful to stay connected online for school and life. I still plan to post here on allnurses.com Brookhaven FaceBook group for class of Fall 2011 I liked what you said about helping eachother out. I most definatly will help my classmates as much as I can! It's part of being a nurse and a good person. What comes around goes around. Does anyone know the link from the brookhaven website that lists all our first semester RN required classes? It used to be so easy for me to find but I guess its moved now. I am trying to estimate my class load and how much moneyz its going to take. P.S. don't let my FB profile picture scare you my brother and I have a compatition on who can look the most... intresting?

Brookhaven Nursing Program
Thank you sweetpea and ktosch I agree with fortylove lol thank you both so much for your helping us new people I really am learning a lot! You two will make great nurses! I am actualy out of questions at the moment! I liked Kinckymarcia and Ashlee's questions about where your clinicals are and if you work in clinical pairs. I am sure I will have more ? later, just havent had time to think, Im at work and trying to get homework done.

Brookhaven Nursing Program
Thanks again sweetpea! I can take a deep breath for now. I am currently in A&P 2 at collin college because scit A&P didnt transfer and I needed a backup school. I will finish and start studying for Pharm and Patho because I am very rusty. I had some classes in the X building and always wondered what part was for nursing. I didnt go down stairs much. Questions: 1. What subjects are most challenging for your class and what class takes up most of your studying time? 2. During clinicals what is most challenging? (I am afraid of knowing all the drugs) 3. How involved are you during clinicals, do you watch mostly or actualy help with drugs/shots and charting?

Brookhaven Nursing Program
Thanks again Sweetpea and ktosch for your very helpful info. I know I am asking a lot, and I can not express how thankful I am that you are spending your time to help us. I'm so scared, I am not a great test taker the only reason I got an A on the Hesi was cause I studied for 3 weeks. I did learn how to study to do well in A&P and I am getting better but RN school... wow. My friend thats in the BSRN program at UTA said that its soo hard, she is almost failing every semester but some how is able to get by. That much stress... *sigh* but I guess it has to be this way because peoples lives will be in our hands. My goal is to not be at the point where a few points wont fail me, I am hoping for a B or whatever I need so I can sleep without constant fear of failure. Tell me what you think of this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Livescribe+-+Livescribe+4GB+Echo+SmartPen/9985845.p?id=1218205764398&skuId=9985845 Its old school and yet I can go home and upload my notes and work from my computer to study which would really help me a lot since I am so digital. I read some awesome reviews about it and was written by an actual nursing student who said it did give her a better way to stay organized. I am worried the teachers may not like it, but I dont always have to use the recorder if they say no. *Questions* (I know Im asking a lot, Ill try to tone it down ) 1. Will there be enough time to prepare for exams with class, clinicals, and papers due all the time? 2. How much of that basement/cave thing is dedicated to the nursing program? Seems like it's all under lock and key. 3. Im not sure how long the program is or when we graduate. Do you know when? We start Aug/Sep? 2011.

Brookhaven Nursing Program
Wow, thank you for going into so much detail on my questions!!! Yes I am very technical, I love gagets. I stay organized on my computer and normaly dont bring anything to class exept my laptop and phone where I take pictures and upload them through bluetooth. I also use my nook for reading lol because it is so little, and I can search words and I even read faster on it. However if you think the teachers may have a problem with it I wont bring them and will focus on doing things the way that makes them happy. I can do it the pen paper way :) So this brings me to more questions: 1. How do you take all those books with you to class every day? Does all that fit in a backpack? O.o 2. Are there lots of group projects? 3. What are some MAJOR dont do's that you have seen? 4. What do u think the key points are to passing with as high a grade possible? 5. What time does class normaly start and whats the parking like? 6. How come I NEVER saw a Brookhaven RN student in green the entire time I was taking classes there!?!? lol Do they hide you?

Brookhaven Nursing Program
Thank you so much Sweetpea!!! I can't wait to thank you in person. I am so excited and nervous and your advice is really helping me feel better and giving a good direction of what I need to prepare for. On behalf of the future 2011 Brookhaven RN progam class we officialy thank you! I put my FB link up under contact info in my allnurses.com profile if anyone wanted to be my friend *Questions* 1. What kind of everyday atire do we wear to class? I like to spend as little possible sleep time on hair/makeup/clothing. I also live in Lewsiville. Is there a uniform on normal class days or can we show up in like gym clothes/jeans? 2. What are your thoughts on the type of books, I hear we can buy e-books and hardback? 3. Would we be able to bring a e-reader like a nook if we can get the e-books? I 4. Do they put all 60 of us in a room to teach or do they split us up? Also how big are your clinical groups? 5. How long is the program, we start in Aug/Sep when would we graduate? 6. If we cant use laptops can we use audio recording with our notes? 7. How strict are they on cell phones?

Brookhaven Nursing Program
*Question* So what should I read up on this summer? I plan to keep my brain active so that nursing wont be a total shock. Some people say A&P, some say med terms, I plan to do as much as I can. Sweatpea: thanks for answering my laptop question with so much detail. :) I hope I get to see you and thank you in person in Aug.

Brookhaven Nursing Program - Spring 2012 Admission
Death and dying from Collin college transfers too. It fills up fast however if you are a student there and you have more then 50 something credits you can beat the crowd a week early and sign up. Other things I have gathered is get your hepatitis shots done, keep the document proof, and also make sure your turning in all your transcripts after completing classes at other colleges on time. They wont count the class if you don't turn in a transcript to both the school and with your application. Sweatpea is so awesome! There is more advice written by Sweatpea if you go to the search and type Brookhaven. First few posts has some that is helping those of us who just got accepted for Fall of 2011.
