Thank you all so much for our advice. I appreciate the support and honesty from everyone. I should have mentioned that I plan on signing on not as a full-time or part-time employee, but PRN- we get great benefits through my husbands career. I wonder if this has any impact on the situation since I do not believe I will eligible for FMLA. I can see how I should go to HR, but at the same time if he/she realized it was me from hearing the details, then I am out a job. Again, I really, really appreciate EVERYONE'S advice and will take all comments to heart over the next few months while I try to figure this out.

Hello RNs, I have a question regarding comment my current boss made. I am currently a nursing student and graduate soon. I have worked as a nursing assistant and various other jobs on my unit for about a year and a half. My boss has already said I have an RN position with him/her on our unit after I graduate. He/She has promised me ICU experience within my first year, something I REALLY would like out of my new career since this is where I would like to focus (I know it is rare in most hospitals to work in the ICU without 1-2 years of RN experience). Anyways, I was working with my boss the other day and he/she asked if I already had children or if I was planning on having them in the future. After I told him/her my husband and I would like to have a family he/she made the comment "You know if I let you work for me I am going to need you to give me a full year before you get pregnant"- he/she then smiled and looked at me and asked "You promise me that you won't, right?" I was blown away at his/her request and replied "I'll think about it." I know that RN bosses are probably annoyed when they get new nurses hired who then quickly become pregnant, take family leave, reduce hours, etc. I would have no problem with this, say, five years ago, even two years ago. But I will be past 31 years old by the time I graduate. Before this conversation with my boss my husband and I had been talking about trying to get pregnant within the next few months. Now I don't know what to do because my boss is not the real forgiving, accepting type- from previous experience of seeing him/her deal with issues with other RNs, I know I would pay for this decision some how- he/she is vengeful. So I guess I need advice on the best way to deal with this situation. I cannot go to HR because you have to explain the situation which would then be explained to him/her and he/she would know I was the one who said something. Thank in advance who your any advice you can offer.

Thank you both for the information- it was VERY helpful. However, because of the merger it looks the transfer requirements are the same now since I would be starting next Spring (since I have missed both deadlines for transfer applications)- and as of January 2013 they are considered one school. The only was I can transfer would be to restart ALL nursing courses- meaning that last year and a half I spent in nursing school would be thrown away. And because I refuse to do that I am forgoing both the ASU/ GHSU nursing programs. I worked by A** off to maintian a 4.0 to this point and will not throw away all that hard work. I have been referred to the University of South Carolina-Aiken nursing program. At this point it looks like all my courses WILL transfer but it will just take an extra sesmeter or two to graduate. If all else fails I guess I will remain where I am and spend the next year and half separated from my family. But again thank you both for your advice. And best wishes going forward in your schooling and career.

Hey- i am hoping to get some advice. I found out today I am moving to Augusta, GA. I am currently a nursing student at LSU and need to transfer schools. I saw there are two BSN programs there- Georgia Health Science University and Augusta State University. Can anyone give me any information and advice about either one- I would truely apprechiate it. thanks!!!

Does anyone know our official start day next semester. I am trying to figure some vacation dates out--- Also has anyone been able to reach anybody about finding out the dates for our Advising Sessions dates, etc?? Thanks in advance!

Oh My Lord--- I CANNOT take this waiting game anymore. I have no fingernails left (bad habit I know) and I cannot concentrate on any of my current school work. Ahhhhhh.....

Okay-- So I know that the written statement is worth 20% of the application points (from grading rubric) and if the interview is 30%, then I would assume the last 50% is a combination of your gpa and hesi exam score. Since the hesi included A&P, which most f us have not taken, I would think that our gpa is holding the most weight! I also know that if you are considered an LSU system student (if you have x-many credits of your core pre-nursing courses taken at LSU or an LSU system school, like UNO) you are given preference. I would assume that this preference is given with x-amount of points that are added to your application total points (this is the process of other nursing schools so I am sure LSU would be very similar in format). As far as our acceptance deadline and hearing back, I have heard several different ones.... - Someone from a previous class last year received their acceptance letter in a little over a week after their interview - My interviewers told me late/ end of October - My advisor who was there yesterday told me mid-October - A previous post said up to mid November ...... So who knows ......

I actually thought the whole thing was pretty much a breeze. I got there early so I was taken up early. The girls I interviewed with were super nice and so was the professor. I was not caught off guard by any of the questions-- they were what I was expecting to get. So now we just have to wait until the end of October (one of my interviewers said she found out the year she got in on Halloween-- so it will defiantly be the END of October!). When I asked about the class size they said it would be between 80-100 out of 134 applicants who interviewed. This is going to be a very long wait.... tick tock!

Ok Y'all... I just called the school to ask about the formality of the interviews. The lady said that it is not formal and is considered casual dress. I hope this helps all of you struggling with wardrobe decisions like myself. GO SAINTS!

nix.... I AM SURE that your score is just fine! I scored a 90 and feel pretty confident with that because I have a high GPA. I would not worry at all! I am more concerned about the interview than anything- and of course I hope they liked my written statement. It is those things that have me nervous because so much of the application points consist of those two things-- And they are dependent on the person reading it/ interviewing you and the style they prefer. Ah-- I think I am over analyzing this all TOO much, but I can't help it!

I would assume anything higher than our class average, which seemed to fluctuate between 77 and 80 each time I checked it

So I finally got my call for an interview today-- now I can breathe! Interestingly it is also on September 18th like everyone else. When I spoke with the lady she said that the interviews is going from 9-3 and will be scheduled in thirty minute increments. There were only three time slots that were completely full as far as this afternoon. It sounds like to me that this is going to be a mass interview session for all those who are chosen to interview. She said to just go to the atrium and there will be people there to sign us in. Maybe it will be like a speed dating scenario... that could be fun Although since I am married I have only ever seen it on tv.... so excited. So to all those who have not received calls, it sounds like there is plenty more room so do not stress out just yet!!!

Sarjan1, still waiting here, but I did notice that my admissions application check was deposited by LSU so hopefully that means my application has been reviewed-- but that is probably just wishful thinking

Hey Astros31-- I was told that we should start hearing about interviews starting in early-to-mid September, so soon!!! The way that the process was explained to me that was after the board reviews all applications they will begin inviting only the qualified ones for an interview (so not all applicants will be interviewed). Most likely starting with the top choices and working down the list until the class is filled. I know that this is the same process that my husband went through for medical school so I am sure that the nursing process is very similar. I would assume that the interview process could last for several months, maybe even through December. So if you are not asked during the month of September I would not freak out. I have no idea about the dorms but I would start looking at apartments around the area-- sometimes they are cheaper, especially if you find a roommate. Good luck and I am saying my prayers for everyone!!!!

Thanks whodat89!!!! It sounds a lot like what we wrote about in the written statement. But that last one about explaining a time about overcoming racial/ social adversity in school is tough. Thanks again for the heads up so I have time to ponder over a response. Hope to see you next semester!

Hey everyone-- So I just turned in my application this afternoon to start the Spring 2011 BSN program. I read other posts that said it will probably take a month+ to hear if we have been accepted for an interview. However, I am more concerned about the interview process. Has anyone personally gone through the interview process or have any friends that have? I am curious about the type of questions we will be asked, how long it will last, and any other details that would help us future interview-ees.... Thanks for the help and advice in advance!!!
