  1. Yes, its just that I have been out of work for nearly a year. I got in the accel. BSN at U-Akron. It is 15 months and starts this Monday. I could not justify another $15K tuition (=more student loans to take out) and probably roughly $30K I would lose not working the extra 9 months that the program runs past the U-Akron one (total = $45K ). I think it would take me another 8-10 years to make that money up and break even, that is IF I got a leadership position after 5-10 years as an RN. Plus I think I want to be an NP or an NA, and I don't think much of the Master's coursework of the CNL would carry over. The sooner I am an RN and get some time in, the sooner I can apply and get in to a program. I would have to essentially do another Master's for either one. Believe me, it was VERY tough to come to this decision, but this recession has really kicked my butt financially and I need to get in and out fast to keep my house. Sorry gang . I do hope you all get in one way or another though.
  2. My reply was due by May 10, so I would say that whoever declines their spot opens up a seat for the next on the list which is why May 15 would make sense. I am unable to attend now so there is at least one spot that will open up for someone.
  3. I considered Cuyahoga CC's program, but they needed 120 hours of shadowing a PA, which I would not have had time to arrange and do before their deadline this year. Plus I wanted to go locally if I am going to spend $60K on the program. The nursing was a safer route financially.
  4. I think you are correct about NP vs PA. My cousin is in the ER at Cleveland Clinic and while he works every day with several PA's he personally prefers NP's because of their practical training and the fact that they don't hesitate to do the job. As for getting into the PA, my earlier post said that there were over 500 applicants for 35 seats at UT. So I would have probably needed to be in the top 93-94 %-ile. My GRE scores were more in the 60-70%-ile, so I was not suprised. Given my age also, I think there is some discrimination in PA and MD that the old guys won't be able to hang with the young ones.
  5. Hi, I had a 4.0 GPA. I really wanted the P.A. program, but this is the next best thing. I did not get into that program so it must have been uber-competitive.
  6. 500V (62%) 730Q (78%) Essay=4 (41%)
  7. 42 Y.O. male, engineer, laid off almost a year ago. UT graduate.
  8. Got in! The word came by e-mail.
  9. Do you know how many seats they have available? I was hoping about 50.
  10. April 8 - no change... Just wondering if I will get something after the selected ones have had their 2 weeks to formally accept and send in their deposit ? I am not sure how it works. Let's hope that isn't the case though .
  11. I heard from the admin. analyst this morning that the committee is working on them but she could not tell me a definite date when we would be notified. The CNL FAQ's say 8-10 weeks after closing (Feb. 1) . Guess I wait for the mailman yet another day.
  12. Sorry, I don't know. Mine was titled "Dear Applicant" so due to the volume of people for the PA, they did not have time to personalize it. I would imagine that the MSN program has 100+ applicants, or about a fifth of the PA. So I would bet it will be this week we should know.
  13. Feb. 28 ... still waiting for notification... I did get my "declined" e-mail from the PA program though this past week so I don't have to stress about getting into that program anymore Over 500 applicants for 35 seats! So 30 out of 100+ for the DEMS is not too bad.
