  1. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the great info about Northside. I actually just came back from ATL for interviews during spring break and interviewed with Northside. They actually do have the highest starting pay in the area for new grads (19.80/hr) and the interview went really well. It's a great place and I'm looking forward to hearing back from them. Take care! NurseMeems
  2. Hey, Well yes, that is true that you make around $22 an hour (or a little less). But you have to remember that the cost of living in New York is MUCH higher than in Atlanta. I hear that the salary is more in the 30's in New York, but for a big city, the cost of living in ATL is pretty good. If you go to nursingnetwork.com, I think they have a salary/cost of living calculator that will give you a better idea of how comparable your current salary to your future salary would be if you moved. Supposedly, Georgia is one of the better states in salary compared to cost of living. Hope this helps!
  3. Hey, I don't know much about the acuity level of patients in the ER, but I do know that CHOA is affiliated with Emory, and Emory doesn't actually have it's own peds units. I would guess that most of Emory's peds emergencies would go to CHOA--but I'm not sure. I wanted to tell you that I have heard outstanding things about CHOA from people in the area, and from nurses who work there. Apparently, it's a great place to work. Good luck in your search! 4. HI and thanks for this info! Actually, reciprocity refers to the National Nurse Licensure Compact--where states particpate in reciprocity without having to get an additional license. I didn't think GA participated in any because I didn't see in on the BON but thanks anyway!
  5. Hey everyone, Does anyone know what states (if any) that Georgia has reciprocity with? I have looked on the BON website but didn't see anything about it. Also, I have heard that it takes ages to get a license endorsed, but what about if you're a new grad and you take the nclex there? How long after you pass the nclex does it take to get your license? Thanks! Nursemeems (I'm graduating soon!!!! )
  6. Wow! Thanks for the information...I keep hearing great news about Northside. I don't understand why the lady in Human Resources told me only 3 days...I specifically asked about new graduate orientation and was shocked when she said no. How do you feel about the environment, culture, and the way nurses are treated? That makes such a big difference in where you work--even if the pay isn't that great, it makes it worth staying. Can't wait to be in GA!
  7. Okay...thanks Daisy! This information is really helpful...especially when you're not from a particular area and have no clue about the reputations of some of these places. I actually received a return call from a RN recruiter at Northside today, and she gave some info about the orientation. I think I must have talked to the HR office assistant who didn't know much. I am strongly thinking about CHOA, Peidmont, Northside and Emory in Pediatrics or Mother/baby. I have heard good things about all of them. Keep up the good work out there! It's nice to have some encouragement from the experienced! NurseMeems
  8. Hi guys, I'm a 4th year BSN student at the University of Virginia and I'm planning to move to ATL in June. I just stumbled upon this forum while looking for info on Grady...boy am I glad I found you! I had heard that Grady wasn't the best, but was gonna give it a try. I think I've changed my mind!!! But, is Northside really a good place to work. I spoke to someone in human resources and had a VERY bad experience...they were rude and not very knowledeable about their own programs. What's worse? Their orientation for new grad nurses consists of only 3 days. Ummm? Can we say dangerous? If anyone out there has better info, please let me know. I'd hate to scratch them off my list if it truly is a good place to work. Thanks!! Nursemeems
