  1. Just one minor clarification. You do have to have a bachelors, but it doesn't have to be in nursing as long as you are a RN. Graceful
  2. Hmmmmmm. I have been told that the results are not stored, and you can't get an item analysis of your test. Wonder if this is really from your NCLEX, although I can't imaging what else it could be. Graceful
  3. Well, I am biased because I go to UT-Houston and I went to UT-Austin for a previous degree, but I say "hook-em". In 2004 US news and world report rated us in the top 10% of "graduate schools" for nursing, but for undergrad we were rated above all the other schools that you mentioned ( I think we UT-Austin was 10 we were19 and UTMB was 32). Now before anyone gets any wrong impression, I think that all of the nursing programs in the medical center: UT, A&M Prarieview, Houston Baptist University, and Texas Women's are all top notch and provide excellent nursing education. Also, ranking is partially determined by research $$$$, so larger Universities have an advantage. We have lots of Aggies here, so don't let that be a factor. You will have to sing "The Eyes of Texas" at graduation though. (Hissing is verboten). Anyway, hope that helped and welcome to nursing. Graceful
  4. Hmmmmm... Meandragonbrett, that tidbit sparked my curiosity. Do you know if that is a commonly used option? What exactly would be the advantage of going the ACNP-->CRNA route, as opposed to the direct route? Graceful
  5. Yes, I think that you have a good chance of at least getting an interview at UT-Tyler. Graceful
  6. Hi Nev, Well I am a senior UT-Houston and when I applied had both A&P's, Pschy of human development, Biostatistics, and a Humanities class lacking and I got in without a problem. Personally, I believe that they give more weight to your GPA. Your grades are excellent and I am sure you will at least get an interview. My advice to you is to get your application in ASAP. They say it isn't first come first serve, but don't you believe them, it is. Good Luck, Graceful:)
  7. Friedrich Nietzsche said that, and I agree
  8. Well said mysterybe. Heymickey, I think you are working under a false conception. The letters RN after your name don't mean that you now know everything there is to know about nursing and therefore any mistake you make is a sign that you are an incompetant nurse. Those letters give you the right to "practice" and it takes years to become an expert. I recomend that you read Patricia Benners book From Novice to Expert: Excellence and Power in Clinical Nursing Practice It is a wonderful book that helps you bridge your theoretical knowledge with your growing clinical expertise. Your concerns are valid and normal, just try to keep them in perspective. Graceful
  9. Well said.
  10. Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread, but I was studying for my final in.......you guessed it Statistics. Ya'll are wonderful. I was beginning to feel like a total loser for not "getting it" It really does help to have people to commiserate with. I ended up with an A, but I really don't know how.
  11. Well Michelle95 my course had a lot of experimental design and interpreting psychological experiments from journal publications. That part was OK. It is just the mindless plug in X get Y that chaps my hide. I am glad I took the Psyche based one instead of the math. Aftere 2 years of college calculus the math wasn't the problem. It was just that I took the course online and I never got a feel for how this was going to make me a better nurse.
  12. thanks babyrn_06 i just figured since everyone has to take this !@#@$%%$#%#%@$ course there has to be some logic behind requiring it. good luck with it. it is a character builder. graceful
  13. Sorry 3rdShiftGuy, but you'll get through it, just keep repeating "I can do anything for 16 weeks, I can do anything for 16 weeks" until it becomes your mantra. This is no gaurantee that at some point you won't slip into a"There's no place like home" madness, but it might help you from going completely insane. Graceful
  14. Alright, here it comes...... I am almost done with my psychology based statistics class and I have learned NOTHING. I have an A in the course, but I feel like I am BSing my way through and I can't motivate myself to learn this stuff. I am usually a very good student, I don't know why I can't focus. Can someone give me some perspective that might make learning this CR** a little easier to choke down? I mean really, what are we going to use this for? End of Rant Graceful
