FSCJ Nursing-Summer 2015
I am single, so i'm not sure. It doesn't hurt to start the process. Or, you can try and stop in and ask the careersource person at the school. Each campus as a careersource location.

FSCJ Nursing-Summer 2015
Congrats to everyone! Just a word of advice-Apply for the Careersource. It pays for you tuition and all required books. It is a lifesaver. As long as you make less than 25.00 an hour, you pretty much qualify. Good Luck Everyone!

FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls
It is 6-8 weeks. They will not offer you any additional info. Just an fyi. They are very generic in there answers. The contact info should be included in your packet I think though. And they can go out sooner. Summer 2014 found out 5 weeks after. Good luck!

FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls
You are incorrect. This coming from a first term nursing student who called right when I received my packet. Think of it this way, think of how many people are accepted into the program. Do you really think they want a hundred people calling on the same exact day? So anyone reading this please don't think that your seat didn't get saved because you call prior to the 28th

You will still have time. I know it sucks to have an entire week less than others but it will be okay. The titers are the only thing you really have to wait for. Everything else is a matter of a couple of days. And finding the time to get it done!

Congrats! I am currently first term Nights and Weekends. We have heard that a majority of your classes will be at deerwood. (ours are at North) Obviously this is subject to change, but this can give you an idea. First term is 4 classes. Here is my schedule Monday-Tests (every single monday testing) starts 6-7 and if you have more than one the second on is at 7:15-8 Tuesday-Health Assessment 6-9 Wednesday-Pharmacology- 6-9 (Hybrid so every other week) Thursday-Concepts-6-9 (hybrid-every other week-opposite of pharm) Saturday-Techniques (clinicals) On campus 8am-1:30--When at Hospital 6:30 am-1:30 We just got our schedule for 2nd term and it looks like this (first 8 weeks is adult health-second 8 weeks is psych) Mondays-ALWAYS TEST :-) Tuesdays-(Adult health or psych) 6-10 Saturday & Sunday 6:30-3 This doesn't start obviously until next month so i have no idea how true it is, but this is the schedule we have been given ;-)

We had one for techniques. We had to wear all whites. that one is to pass before going to the hospitals. If it is considered a clinical day towards clinical hours but you aren't going to the hospital, you are supposed to wear the polos and khakis. So far i've worn mine 3 times in the first semester. The other simulation will be for health assessments, head to toe assessment, but no specific attire is required.

Do you plan to be next semester? You can apply again once you are. If not...then you may be correct

It's not up to your intake person per say. It's up to them to make sure you have all of the correct paperwork and proof turned in to prove your eligibility. I would Def try. You would think that would be full time. But not sure. Your intake person will depend on your home location. There is a careersource person at each of the campuses, you could ask.

I wore jeans. You sit in the auditorium, listen to a bunch of different people speak, pick your section and leave. There isn't much interaction directly with the professors or anything. So no need to dress your best to impress ;-)

They are quite lenient. The only way you don't qualify is if you make over 25.00 an hour. i do remember one person was ex military and was going to school through the VA and they did not qualify.

I don't recall seeing UF health..but to add to the previous list, I am currently doing mine at Orange Park Hospital. Night and weekends only had Baptist Nassau and OP to choose from. But this changes every semester. Daytime has more options.

Skills Kit- later you will get an email to purchase it and it gets sent to the school. I just turned in whatever they gave me back at the drug testing place. I didn't have a carbon copy. (MAKE COPES OF ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING) And if it doesn't specifically as for originals, don't give them the original. I got my titer testing done a physicians office because you have to get a physical anyways. So titers, physical and TB testing can all be done in one shot. Carespot does it too i've heard. If anyone needs to get into a new physicans office quickly, i have i OP. I hadn't seen my primary care in a long time, so they wanted to set up a reinstatement kind of appointment and wouldn't schedule me for a few weeks. I was able to get into this office on the same day and get all of my stuff done through them. My insurance covered some of it. And i needed a Hep B shot, and was able to get my first one through them.

Pants you can buy from anywhere. There is a uniform outlet on blanding and one on university. And less expensive than meridy's. Honestly, I really wouldn't worry with a lab coat. You can't use them during patient care..so you pretty much don't wear it. Shoes can be from anywhere just can't be backless clogs and must be all leather..including the tongue of the shoe. I wear sketchers sneakers. Skills kit is practice supplies. Foley kit, dressing change kit, syringes, needles..stuff like that.

You can call, but they will probably tell you no. BUT, there were 3 people who were in days that wanted nights, that were able to switch. It has to be agreeable between the 2 people at orientation. So if you find anyone that wants to switch, they are okay with it, you just have to let them know. So its all about finding someone who wants to switch with you. They save a certain amount of seats for reinstatement's, so right now they may not be willing to tell you over the phone.

The laptop and tablets is all personal choice. they have no say so. As long as you can get your assignments in on time, online, they could care less how you get it there. I have a laptop and tablet. Tablet does come in handy so i don't have to bring my laptop to school sometimes. In theory you don't HAVE to have them, but i would highly suggest at least a laptop. I still bring my laptop to school here and there. One of my best purchases so far has been a laser printer with double sided printing. I print ALOT and a regular printer that uses ink is not sufficient for me. And the double sided printing saves on paper.

It changes per semester, but so far does not change during the semester. Clinicals is part of your Techniques grade. So on the days you would have techiniques, is the day you would go to clinicals (first semester specifically speaking) Like for night and weekends our techniques is on Saturday. So right now we are doing our clinical rotations on Saturdays 6:30 to 1:30. class was 8 to 1:30 before clinicals started on campus. Not sure if there is much difference in days, but that is how it is for n/w.

The tabers comes in the box of books you are required to get. you can't pick and choose which books you get. You have to buy the package. (career source will pay for all of this)

Congrats you guys on getting in. I am also currently finishing up first term (n&w). I'm sure you have heard but the program (administrators mainly) are disorganized and they do not have good communication. BUT, if you know this and accept this ahead of time, it will help with frustration. There is enough stress just getting everything together and having 4 classes in the first term to add to it with frustrations that you cannot change! It sucks sometimes, but it will all be worth it in the end :-) The skills kit you don't need for a couple of weeks into the semester for Techniques. the only additional thing it has is a pen light . I personally did not buy a jacket because you are never allowed to use it. lol. If you are cold natured, you can wear white underarmer or something that fits close to the skin under your clinical white uniform. Anyone with visible tattoos on their arms has to do this anyways. I would not buy your pants from Meridy's. Obviously name tag and shirt. I went to the uniform outlet. ALSO, a suggestion, i first bought Cherokee brand scrubs. I wore them once to clinicals and hated them. lol. I bought greys anatomy and such a huge difference (much softer). ;-) Polo's and khakis you won't wear for several weeks into the program. The nurses association will sell used tops (clinical and polos) at orientation for usually $5.00 a piece. I bought 2 used polos that looked brand new for the less than the amount i would have bought one new one. ;-) I was hopeful for a used Uniform top, but didn't have any in my size, but i do know people who did get lucky to get one. A cheap calculator is what you need and are allowed to use, no scientific or anything like that. Just brush up on your fractions and such. I was so freaked out by the first dosage calc test because it was on the first day of class only a week after orientation, and i'm terrible in math and did great. As long as you do the stuff on the info they sent out, you will do fine. And make sure you do CAREER SOURCE. it is amazing and pays all tuition and Required books. You can still get your loans and or pell great sent to you if you include a hardship letter when you do your intake appointment. As long as you make under 25.00 ( i believe is the correct amount) and hour, you pretty much qualify. The most amazing professor is Professor Burns. She teaches Pharm, but is also just very knowledgeable about the whole program. She is awesome. I love Professor Boyd as well, I had her for techniques. She also teaches Concepts. She's great too. Good Luck and get ready!

FSCJ Summer 2014 Hopefuls
It's not really hard to get in. It really depends on the grades that are on the required prerequisites plus your NAT score. Generally if you're above of 190 total points you're OK. In the 180's it can be kind of nerve wracking.
