  1. I think there is a very easy answer to this -- get a new primary care doctor. Almost every doctor in my area keeps same day appointments open in our area, for just this reason. Worst case scenerio, you should have been worked in meaning you would have had a two hour wait on average, but no upcharge for a new patient and could have seen your regular doctor.
  2. You could always get your masters degree in social work, complete you year of supervision, and be a LCSW. Then you could 1) be a counselor for behavioral health, 2) get training and do certified diabetic education, 3) go into behavioral health administration, etc.
