What should EVERY nurse know about Dialysis
Thanks! I, also asked this question on the Home Care site...got a very different type answer! Also, PLEASE do NOT put a pressure drsg on the access site EVER! We struggle daily with our local ER with this....always a pressure dressing and always a call after hours once the pt gets home to have it removed. UGH!

The Home Care Dialysis Patient
Hello! I am a dialysis nurse turned Home care nurse with a question for all you home care nurses concerning dialysis...a little background, the community I live in had a dialysis center open in the past year thus an influx of dialysis patients that need home care...this is very new for the experienced home care nurses as they rarely have had the opportunity to care for this patient population so my question to is...What do you wish you knew about dialysis/dialysis patients? For example do you feel the need for more end stage renal diet education, fistula care, or info on the treatment process?? Thanks!

What should EVERY nurse know about Dialysis
I am a dialysis nurse turned home care nurse...live in a rural area that recently has had a dialysis center open (I work there PRN). With this opening the local home care agency has seen an influx of dialysis patients...and due to conflicts of interest I can not be their primary home care nurse. I am planning an in-service focusing on basic need to know info on dialysis patients and care needs. So I ask you, the dialysis nurse....what do YOU wish EVERY nurse knew about the dialysis patient?

Restorative Nurse ??
I started a new job as "Restorative Nurse" today. My orientation, the whole 2 hours of it, left MUCH to be desired. Infact I was ready to call it a day and a career within the first 3 hours :stone but decided that I would grit my teeth and stay. I have convinced myself to give it a try. Any suggestions?? What I know....that the program is reimbersed by minutes and that they have to have 15 billable minutes 6 days a week. They can have a max of 2 "programs". Can anyone link me somewhere?? Help in any way???

Recovery time from Mitral Valve Replacement
My dad is most likely looking at a Mitral Valve Replacement in the near future. I have no idea what the recovery time will be for this. Can anyone give me a ball park? He lives in another state, has many chronic health conditions and little support where he lives, I would prefer that he recover here but that may not be something he will consider. Thanks, Twink

Christ Hospital School of Nursing Cincinnati
Its a GREAT program. Fast paced and personal since the class is fairly small. My last news letter from the school stated that they had close to 300 apps for 160 (or pretty close) openings. So if you truelly are wanting in there ya better get your info turned in as it seems the class will fill up fast. PM me if you like. Twink

Need help
I have a client that is having issues with being able to get out of her home during fire drills. The two main issues are the front wheels of w/c turn and fall into the track of the sliding door making it extremely hard for her to get her chair out the door. Problem number two once out the door on to the concrete pad she is to wheel her self in the grass to a tree and "wave" until she gets the attention of the firefighters :stone In order for her to get off the pad she must wheel herself down a small make shift "ramp" which is nothing more than two square 12x12 stepping stones pushed somewhat together. She cannot do this...as the wheelchair tips dumping her out Of course the management of the apartment complex is giving me the run around so I need help in finding info on proper exits for handicapped. Anyone have in links?? I'm searching and searching
