  1. I never formally reported though :( I only admitted to my administrator that I struggled and failed as a mandated reporter
  2. Thank you. I do try to do the right things and have decided to distance myself from co workers so when something occurs I don't have a sense of loyalty to them over my professional ethics. My friend and I have essentially now stopped talking and reporting now although it gives me sooo much anxiety because it wouldn't be anonymous would almost look like it's not done in good faith and is retaliation (not sure if she got wind that I vaguely reported her and maybe that's why she stopped talking to me.) I've been struggling mentally for over a month with this because I try to be perfect and so the right thing matters to me. It makes me feel unworthy when I don't follow all the rules. I contemplated quitting for the guilt I had if not being a good mandated reporter. Th alt isn't is no longer in our facility but the guilt remains and when I say vaguely reported her I was essentially telling my employer I failed as a mandated reporter but didn't give enough identifying information
  3. Thank you for responding. I respect your honesty. Is it worth going back to formally report over a month later ? I know I can't be anonymous and admit the fear of everything around me especially the situation of not being present plus the relationship of the person who it was I clearly failed ethically. Im aware I'll face punishment possibly for failure to report in a timely fashion. I did go to my administration but she could see I was crumbling and in distress and couldn't get the words out
  4. Tthank you for responding. No I've only spoken to friends outside of my facility aside from vaguely confessing to the administrator. It was more of a confession saying I failed and less about the friend and her behavior. Admittedly the fall out and fear of how everyone will perceive me as well as my former friend was my main concern. I feel like a coward. The patient is no longer at our facility but the guilt is still with me
  5. Most would and have said I am being dramatic. I deal with severe anxiety and have such sensitive conscience. I also deal with religious anxiety. So over a month back a friend working multiple jobs , overworked and not sleeping confessed to cussing at a patient. I wasn't present but told her it wasn't okay and this is something I'd rather not know. This is for a private case we both shared but not present at the same times. At our other job she does transport and comes in to work joking and laughing about how a patient was fighting her so bad. It was funny and I said wow and there's cameras in the van. She leans in and whispers and demonstrates that she basically said to the patient "oh I have something for you " and gently demonstrates pinching me under the arm. Yall I was appalled. I do understand the stress of being hit. I do understand her being alone on the van and not having an escape and having to transport the patient to or from the appointment. But telling me made me feel criminal. I told her days later it was abuse. She said "well what about me? What was I supposed to do to get them off of me? "Again I understand. And again even with the cussing a week before this is not her baseline. Working 20 hour days 5 days a week is no excuse but I understand. I told my employer that I failed as a mandated reporter and vaguely told but couldn't bring myself. I basically felt guilt for reporting a frustrated friend of 10 years and following the rules /law. I legit froze. It's been weeks and I feel HORRIBLE. My friend and I actually stopped being friends. I knw reporting now is still an option but the repercussions is it worth it to clear my mind when I know it's a compulsion? Have anyone ever dealt with failure to comply perfectly ? Even telling my boss isn't compliance because I didn't do it formally. I feel like a fraud
  6. Do you think its reportable? I'm notnsure if anyone saw it but do you think it's worth reporting myself ?? ..again I work at a place that literally has the names , attending RN and doctor posted outside the patients door as well as fall precautions etc..the only thing on my paper was a few check marks under accu check, indepent and that a few used urinals. I worry a ton and don't want to break the law (HIPAA scares me )
  7. Thank you. I'll definitely try to be more cautious. I'm still wondering how a hospital or even nursing home can have a patients last name , attending RN and doctors name listed on the white board directly outside of the door and that NOT be considered a violation??
  8. Oh! I apologize for my response. But I'm curious how it works for lime hospitals and nursing homes where they have patients last names and room number displayed? Ornsome facilities have a sign outside of patients doors that indicate they're a fall risk or clues about their diet by saying NPO or isolation ? is this not HIPAA ?
  9. ??? thank you for bringing humor and making me realize just how ridiculous my post is ? ..I read your comment at least 4 times before realizing you were being humorous LOL..thank you:-)
  10. I'm an overthinker and always afraid of violating HIPAA or needing to turn myself in
  11. I'm always afraid of violating HIPAA . What am I allowed to share and what about this ??? ... so I am a CNA and have a paper from the previous shift that has patients last name , nurse for the night and any other notes I write down. I only made a few check marks to a few patients under the accu check section, marked a few people as using a urinal and a few people I wrote down as being independent. Anyways I got called immediately to help with a patient and made sure my screen was blank but my paper I mentioned was on the desk face up. I'm not sure if the family member for the patient that waited outside of the room near my computer looked at the paper or not. Is this considered a HIPAA violation? My unit has outside of patients door things like "fall risk ... npo... isolation precautions " etc outside of patients doors ...wouldn't these things be as much a violation as the info on my paper ? Also I had a conversation with my sister and mentioned to her that sometimes I have patients who remind me of our grandmother on days where she's heavy on my mind and they will have her birthday. I didn't include any information about the patients .. gender ..diagnosis ..or ages. Is this okay ?
