  1. I worked in an inner city ER for 25 years prior to my “cushy office job”. I certainly, as you will one day, deserve a cushy job. Not one ounce of guilt here.
  2. I didn’t grouse but would expect more mature helpful responses from colleagues instead of bitter comments that provide no helpful advice. And if you had read my original post, smiling blueyes , you’d know I was working during the pandemic as you did. I worked in med surg and the ER and took as much risk as you did. Didn’t start work from home until Jan 2021 as I posted and don’t need your assumptive reply. Thanks to those with honest feedback and not the whiney useless responses. Wow this place is full of nurses with misdirected anger. Peace.
  3. I appreciate most of the replies, not so much the suck it up ones. As a nurse of 32 years I think it’s time we speak up for ourselves respectfully to management or they will continue to keep us down by making us fear for our jobs. Why do nurses consistently allow ourselves to be controlled when we have knowledge, experience and want only what is best for our patients? I will, as will my coworkers, ask for a reason why they no longer want us to work from home because I think we deserve one as we all have been at this institution 20+ years. If we as nurses refuse to demand improved employee satisfaction then I feel for the rest of you if you have just begun your career. Nurses need to realize after this crazy year they need us!! And btw I wear pants, shirt and brush my teeth before work….
  4. We have been working remotely since Jan 2021( we call pts at home to do a preop assmt), yes, it took a while for our admin to get work from home in place. Our manager now states she wants us back in the office( without reason). There is no reason for us to be in the office as it will be overcrowded. I asked if we as nurses could be part of the conversation with the upper nursing administration as this decision is finalized and was told "NO". Should we pursue with the nsg director as she has the final say and always tells us her door is open? We don't feel our manager will convey the positive points that work from home has provided. And there have been absolutely NO negative issue/problems in the last 6 months we have worked from home and our productivity has increased! Thoughts?

Thanks for your thoughts! Yes this is beginning to cause issues for those of us sched to cover the tech role. The nurse that prepares the sched( antiquated, no self scheduling here) does not assign everyone (including herself) to cover the desk. Also our 2 PRN RNs do not cover this tech role either which has really caused frustration for those of us required to work as a tech covering clerical duties. It is not financially sound to take the RNs aware from their duties to work as a tech. Thoughts on how to address? We of course will cover in an emergency but we all should be expected to cover and I am a nurse and that’s the job I want to perform consistently. thanks

I’m an RN, work in pre-admission testing making phone call assessments to pts prior to surgery. We have two Techs who work as techs/pt service rep( reception, calling Dr offices to get pre ops, clerical duties) When the techs are off, sick/ PTO, some of the RN’s are scheduled to cover the desk for the tech. I understand in an emergency someone needs to cover their duties but we are being prescheduled to cover them. They are also included in our schedule (as far as requests off/vacation) which makes it more competitive to get off as we have to cover them. In my 32 yrs of experience , RN’s and tech sched. have been separate. My concern is that I do not feel as an RN I should be pre-sched to cover the techs. They need to hire another tech! And not all of the RN’s in my unit are required to “work as the tech”, just some of us. Is this unfair practice?
  9. We are never satisfied. Many nurses would give their eye teeth for a M-F day job. Just sayin'... I have been an RN for 31 years, 26 of those years in the ER working holidays/weekends/nights/days/evenings/missing family events etc...I had enough and was able to land a Mon-Fri job and well deserved after 26 years of the ER, wouldn't you think?? It's not a matter of not being satisfied, I paid my dues! Just sayin...
