  1. Hi jpalmtree, welcome and congratulations! I just finished my 1st semester, so I know how confusing everything is for new nursing students and I know ALLLL the questions you and others have LOL. ☆1 - I wish we had online lectures all through out 1st semester, not just toward the middle due to COVID-19. Would have saved lots of gas money. For me, nursing program so far is basically teaching you to ask why your about to do something to a patient. They're teaching advanced critical thinking. 2- Books- Do not waste your money, like I did, on the 1st semester book bundle purchase. It's $550 for about 11 total books, drug book, codes etc. You don't need all those. Just need 1 Fundamentals book and 1 MedSurg book. 3- don't freak out on your first day/ week. It's a LOTT of new info and requirements. 4- For the medical packet, do your physical exam with your primary the day before it's due. This will save you a lot of headache, like I'm going thru right now, for when 2nd semester starts. 5- If covid class restrictions continue, if your able to, buy a laptop/desktop with lots of storage and memory. Assignments/homework are given in abundance. This was my primary question going into 1st semester, what r your schedules like and can I work - I was able to keep my fulltime 40 hour a week job all throughout the 1st semester while finishing with an A in Pharmacology, A in Fundamentals, B in MedSurg and completing all the clinical hours. ☆ Class schedules for us for the first 2 months was Monday, Tues, Wed, and Thursdays lectures and labs. Last 2 months was Monday all day lecture and Thursday 2 hours lecture Tuesday and Wednesday hospital clinicals. Let me know if u have other questions.
  2. I would be extremely sceptical about the accreditation. I went to about 5 community college orientations before submitting applications for ADN, and they all said you need to have a letter grade for the labs portion of all the sciences and at least 4 units per prerequisite class.
  3. If you have associates degree you dont need HS trans. So basically you submit trans for highest level of education COMPLETE. To save you some time, I used this website to order my transcript for HS https://needmytranscript.com/ I dont know if you need trans for all HSs attended or just the one you graduated from.
  4. For community college only prerequisites are these listed below(some colleges may be different).. For PE and other GE and associates degree requirements, they STRONGLY recommend that you do take them before starting 1st semester. (But you dont have to have PE or AA degree courses finished to apply. Yes your PE can be in progress. There is a section on the application that asks if any classes are still in progress. I'm in my 3rd week of a communtiy college program and I will tell you that you will have 0 time to take PE or other classes with the nursing classes. Imagine taking Micro+Physiol+Chem+Bio all together in 1 semester. You will not have time for other courses. Usual FINISHED courses to apply. These need to be finished and a letter grade shown on your official transcript. Anatomy 1 (4 semester units) Physiology 1 (4 semester units) Microbiology 1 or 20 (4 semester units) Chemistry 60 or 68 (5 semester units) or one-year High School Chemistry (two semesters each with C or higher) Psychology 1 (3 semester units) Psychology 41 (3 semester units) English 101 (3 semester units) Math 125 (or higher) (5 semester units)
  5. READ THIS.... First make sure that the place you are applying accepts online labs. Most programs do not. They want you to have "hands on experience". I.e. California colleges do not accept any fully online science prereqs. But if you take the class online and labs are in person(in the classroom), then this is accepted and accredited.
  6. What step are you on now? Have u taken your teas? I didnt do anything special. I scored 73% on Teas and 3.5 GPA overall and 3.5 science gpa and no extra curricular activities or any experience.
  7. Just cause of the Distance- Southwest was a last resort. Its 1 hour 15 min from my house lacc is 40 min
  8. I dont think they told us.
  9. I registered 1st day too. I heard others say that the class was closed too. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure it's a mistake from LACC's side.
  10. Your fine. I got in with 73% on teas 3.5 gpa into 3 community colleges
  11. I believe lacconah classes are 4 or 5 days a week. 1 benefit of lacconah is that I heard after you graduate and you work at lac +usc hospital for 1 year, they pay off your nursing school tuition. But I would double check this info.
  12. My colleges cut score.was 64% for the adn program, I got in with 73% but my overall GPA is 3.5 and science GPA is 3.33
  13. If you haven't heard anything by now make sure to call them. I was not emailed or called after the lottery drawing last week. I just called them and they said I was accepted but I need to email a counselor that I accept my spot. This was all at 1pm and deadline is today at 5pm (friday nov 8th)
