  1. tCU is Telemetry (or Transitional) Care Unit - somewhere between ICU and MedSurg, if I understand correctly....
  2. I'm midway through my R.N. program and will be doing an 80 hour workstudy in a TCU this summer. Does anyone have any specific pointers for working on this unit (e.g., how is it different from medsurg)? Thanks!
  3. I was 41 (am 43 now) and i would say that the best age is really when you're ready - I'm just glad I was ready before my reproductive window closed! If I had known how wonderful kids are, AND if my life had been completely different (regarding money, right partner(s), etc.), I would have started at 20 and had one every 5 years! Since I did a lot of other things in my 20's and 30's - traveled, etc., I don't feel resentful at the sacrifices I am making now to be a parent. When my sister had her babies at 19 and 21, she was very jealous of my freedom and independence, because she never got to taste her own.
  4. I'll begin a 5 week peds rotation in February and am wondering if anyone has any general pointers. How is it different from medsurg (besides having younger patients?) Do you find it emotionally upsetting to work with really sick kids? Also, I have a 2-1/2 year old and am concerned I might pick up a serious bug and pass it on to him. I'm gearing up for some serious handwashing (always a good idea anyway), and will try to change out of my scrubs before I get home. Thanks!
