  1. I don’t know if to quit or just wait it out. So I recently got hired on as a patient care technician at a local hospital where I live here in Dallas, Texas. I got the job after I completed a Pct program last year. I went through that program and applied to this hospital because I really wanted to get my foot in the door in healthcare and get into this hospital to apply to a nursing program that they have to offer to their employees. Well I’ve only been here at the hospital for barely two weeks now doing training and I’ve come to realize that this isn’t what I genuinely want to do career wise. After working a couple of nights shadowing my Pct preceptors, Im starting to see just how much heavy the workload can be for them in dealing with direct patient care for in-patients at a hospital and the same goes for the RN’s. I know I’ve only been here for a small amount of time but I no longer can see myself going back to school for nursing. I honestly want to have a career in healthcare but I don’t want to deal directly with patients where I’ll have to be constantly turning and moving them to clean/bathe them. I’m a small person and I’m already seeing that I’m struggling to do that. There’s times where I couldn’t even help others in moving patients and I felt useless. I really would much rather work at an out patient clinic for the time being while I can go back to school for a degree in Health Technology Information. I feel at a clinic, I’ll be able to learn more about how to organize medical records, navigate patient charting systems and learn about medical coding, etc. I’ve been doing a lot of research on this degree and I can honestly see myself working behind the scenes in healthcare and away from direct patient care. I actually dread going in to work and I’m not looking forward to being on my own next week with my own patients. I just really wish I would have been more patient with myself in regards to finding a job, thought things genuinely through, and/or applied to a out patient clinic. I really want to make a difference in people’s lives and help others but I just can’t see myself doing this type of direct in patient care in the future. I guess I was also in desperate need for a job since I lost my old job due to the pandemic. I was told by the hospitals HR that I would have to wait/work 6 months on my unit until I can be considered to be transferred to any other department or clinic within the hospital franchise. I honestly don’t know if to just suck it up, give it my best/all and work here for these next 6 months or see if I have any luck finding a job at a clinic through another hospital(s) in my city. I also worry if I leave this Pct job right now, it’ll bite me in the butt in the future when future jobs look at my job history. I really don’t know what to do at this point.
  2. No like self drake and allison nelson told me that unfortunately the department can't tell us about any information pertaining to the waiting list ,however that by mid December we should have an aswer about if we are really going to be in or not. I hope we get more info abouy it during orientation. I find it weird though that this semester they can't tell us about it since I was looking at a thread from this past spring where people where talking about knowing their rank number on the list?
  3. Yes Im on the waiting list and i payd for my drug test ,however I still have not received an email about the fingerprint identification that we have to get done
  4. Hey I just wanted to check on here about if anyone has recieved the next step email pertaining to the fingerprint identification that we have to complete? I haven't received anything about it and well I was just wondering about it since I heard that that also is due by November 30th. Also did anyone receive a response email back from Vanice Schultz whenever they submitted their health forms and drug test reciept? I emailed her my documents a week ago but she never replied back with a confirmation email about it or anything like that?
  5. Congratulations. The people that are on the wating list also have to attend the success camp orientation just like those that got accepted. It said so on the next steps email that they sent out. Shultz said that if you did not receive a next steps email then to reach out to her. I really wish i could get more information cconcerning where I am at on that list but I spoke to Nelson and Self- Drake about it and they said that that's information that they dont know/can't be discussed with us
  6. Hey so Im kinda confused here about the whole setting up the email through dcccd. Is it the same email that we have set up that gives us mail and alerts from dcccd/econnect? If so all we have to do is send it to Shultz? Also about the proof of health requirements, do we have to pretty much send copies of the same documents (cpr, tb, insurance,) that we sent with our applications again? Do we have to send a link of our health insurance? Im confused especially on that part
  7. Yeah im going to schedule an appointment with Nelson and see what advice she tells me because at this point im already thinking on plan b,c, and d. It's sucks to say this but its like your not even guaranteed if there will be an opening and I dont understand why they would make us go through the whole "attend the first week of class" if its not even guaranteed that we're even going to be allowed to stay in the program.
  8. I got selected to be on the waitlist :/ I dont feel too good about it tbh
  9. So does that mean that they havent decided on what day(s) they'll be sending out emails?
  10. Yeah so i got there 30 minutes before my scheduled time so that i could complete the written portion of the interview. The questions that i had to answer where about "why do I want to be a nurse" and "what are my goals as a nurse as well as what could i contribute as a nurse". After that i was taken to the conference room and i was interviewed by two of the nursing departments faculty. They pretty much asked me the same questions that i was given in the written portion and other questions such as what are my personal strenghts n weaknesses, what makes me a good candidate/why they should choose me, and if I have what it takes to deal with and undergo the program and the requirements and stuff. They also will ask you about your flexibility and if you will able to do the program if you work. Overall I think it went good for me and the interview felt pretty laid back and not as scary like i thought it would be.
  11. Mines on the 16th :)
  12. Hey guys has anyone received their second follow up email that we where suppose to get? I think its the one that has details about your appointment date n time? I haven't gotten mine yet?
  13. Omg i got mine too!!!!
  14. Congratulations to everyone that has received their emails. So is self-drake perhaps going by alphabetical order in sending out the emails?
  15. Same I haven't gotten anything. So I dont know if this is accurate or not but i read in a thread from last semester applicants that apparently they would receive a call from a 214-860 number for their interview requests? So I dont know if that is perhaps something that we should be on the look out for?
