  1. I have only 1 maybe most 2 patients that complain. I think I'm a very paranoid afraid person. Someone that worries a lot. My reviews have always been amazing. I just worry so much. I think I create this problem for myself. I'm just a very insecure person. When one person complains I suddenly feel like I've committed a crime. I never felt like this before. I don't know what's happening to me emotionally
  2. Is there a timeframe as to how long it should hurt? I have a haloperidol injection in the arm which is typical in our facility and 2 days later the patient says it still hurts. I know haldol is thick and arm soreness is common but it just makes me so nervous !!!
  3. I'm giving them haldol dec and abilify and invega depot injections. I have a few who are SO EXTREMELY dramatic about " you can't give it here it hurts" I know this sounds mean but I just wanna tell them... MAYBE IF YOU DIDNT EAT FAST FOOD EVERY DAY and weren't 350lbs I could give it somewhere it wouldn't hurt as bad!!!!!!!!!! Ready to leave nursing .
  4. Hi guys, please help! I'm terrified of the VG site. I feel like there isn't enough muscle there! Even if I find the landmarks I still feel like I'll be injecting it in the wrong place or I'm gonna hit a bone! Please help me!!! Does it look like there isn't a lot of muscle? Can I do it for pts standing up? I work with psych and they're not compliant. I usually just stick them in the DOrsogluteal if I'm even lucky. Please --- any advice would be great!
  5. Hi everyone, quick question-- I have a lot of Psych patients who refuse the VEntrogluteal site. I have no choice but to give them these 2ml injections in the dorso which I hate hate hate doing! My question is if it was hit would they feel it? And would the pain be constant? Or go and come? I'm just trying to understand this patients pain. He's never complained that my injections hurt. I'm reading descriptions of people getting hit in the sciatic and they describe it as an electric shock. I've never had that any complain of that-- most I hear is " ouch that's stinging" and heck I expect ability to sting a little. I'm just trying to figure out if I would have known from their reaction had I hit their nerve ( which frankly I have no idea how it would happen! I basically give it up in the top top almost hip area!) any guidance? Thank you
  6. Thank you for writing...last month I gave a haldol dec in the glut ( only place he'd let me) with a 1.5. He started having sx 2 weeks later. I've been blaming myself this entire time that I should have used a 2 because I might have gone subcutaneous... he's 188 lbs 5'6! Now I'm giving an IM in the deltoid and I'm terrified to use a 1.5 although I know a 1 will not cut it for this 250 lb lady. I used to be so confident until that haldol dec patient screwed everything up for me. I feel completely defeated...
  7. Thank you!!!!! I have one female who gets haldol dec and she doesn't let me go anywhere but her arm! And she's always making noises... honestly I get it- it can hurt but geez I'm not murdering you!!!! None of my other guys make noises ... she's the only one and since she won't let me give it anywhere else I'm stuck doing it in her arm! And she's about 250 so I'm always terrified when I go in with the 1.5 . I'm cringing just thinking about it!!!! Thanks for the invega advice!
  8. Thank you. So do you recommend going all the way in? I hate this. I used to never have problems with this until i messed up one time and now I'm a nervous wreck every time on things I never had a problem with! What's the matter with me! I feel like a terrible nurse I serisouly want to just turn my license in after all these years. I never thought I'd stoop to this level. Thank you
  9. Hi everyone, thanks in advance for the help. i have a question about using 1.5 in obese clients. I have two who are about 250lbs and my invega box says to use a 1.5 inch which makes sense. My question is do I put in the entire length of the needle? I feel like it's a bit much despite their weight. I almost feel like I'm going to hit the bone 😣!!!!! Can you help advise as to how you do it? I know a one inch definitely won't get to the muscle on my obese female but I'm scared to stick in the entire length!!!!! Help!!
  10. Thank you for this. It really helps. There's been a lot of anxiety in my heart and it's ruined my weekend. I used to be so confident in everything I did. A bad leader can really make you doubt yourself. Thanks for being supportive and offering guidance
  11. Can you guide me on something? In the VG site if the patient is less than 200lbs would you likely use a 1.5 still? I have some guys that are oved 200 and I always worry what to use ... 1.5 or 2 in the VG and the DG. How about in the deltoid?
  12. Hello :) thanks for the response. not sure where the confusion started however I would never use a dirty needle for a second injection. What we do at our psych hospital which I've done at every psych hospital I've worked in is for example if I have to administer 300 of haldol dec we have three separate vials of the medication and I will draw up 150 in one needle and 150 in the other and the patient will receive 150 on each side... not with the same needle. Just like you're giving multiple vaccines. I have one guy who will not accept his meds unless I give 100mg in each deltoid -- he's terrified of butt injections . So yes... :) certainly not using the needle Twice
  13. Thank you. This helps me a lot. He used to be on 150mg then they lowered him to 125 because of EPS. I just really hope they bump that up. I'm going to split that dose in half and give it in each arm. No more in the butt! He's too fat and I just don't feel he gets the full effect! Thank you so much
  14. Thank you I hope I make it that long !
  15. But... I used a 1.5 not a 2. I didn't have 2 available and I even checked on our psych unit and they only had 1.5 too. Ugh. The anxiety is overwhelming
  16. Hello there... so my invega box comes with only a one inch and 1.5 inch for dorsogluteal injections! So it basically says use 1 inch for the deltoid or 1.5 in the deltoid if they're over 200 and then it says 1.5 for dorsogluteal no matter what. Which is what I always do. I always use 1.5. I'm honesty shocked that it doesn't have a 2 inch in there for the more obese patients. Should I use a 2 inch anyway?
  17. Thank you so much for your kind words
  18. Hello there :) Thank you but I feel like an idiot.... í ½í¸« I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. I'm worried because the guy I was injecting was probably a little under 200.. no where near a body builder... he's overweight. I'm terrified it didn't go into muscle
  19. Thanks for the response. Well I've never actually even used a 2. I've always used a 1.5 but after all my anxiety set in- naturally I started looking at all kinds of articles and BMI needle ratios... you know everything that would give me a panic attack I read! So here I am convincing myself I messed up when I don't even know if I did. I suppose the reason I'm nervous is he never has sx-- well he's usually delusional but apparently it's just gotten worse so now, naturally, I feel like it's my fault. This whole thing comes down to the fact that he's completely paranoid and for some odd reason-- not odd for him- his delusional thinking led him to believe he would die if I gave it to him while he's lying on his side! So I gave it in the UOQ to just get him to calm down and not react and just accept the injection. I struggle with this guy every month. The entire thing is exhausting- emotionally for me. Just fearing that I will not give it correctly leading to his decompensation. I apologize for the long response. My anxiety is just ridiculous
  20. Thanks for this! I'll definitely take a look. A lot of my guys are now on invega but haldol works so great for so many. Thanks
  21. thank you so much. I'm so terrified I'll be blamed. I gave it dorsoglut although I know it's not recommended -- since we're using haldol most often that's where we give it since it's so irritating. I know the last blood draw in October showed that he was on the low end....now I'm terrified it'll come back low again and I'll be blamed for his admission due to decompensation. Thank you so much for your help.... I just need to keep my anxiety under control. Sometimes these things make me want to crawl under a rock and never work as a nurse
  22. Hello everyone I appreciate in advance for the support as I'm truly upset. I give haldol dec injections monthly and most of my guys are pretty skinny- that being said, I have one that's not! He's close to 200. Well... we had no 2 inch needles available so I used a 1.5 21 g because haldol is pretty thick.... well fast forward 3 weeks he's starting to have some delusions and auditory hallucinations which I feel like is my fault because I just don't think I put the medication into his muscle fully-- a part of it must have ended up subq! Im terrified. I feel so scared that when they do a blood level it'll appear low and they'll know I did a terrible job at the injection. can someone please guide me on this? I know the entire z track method etc. I guess im just scared I'll get in trouble and need some positive words.... thank you
