Problem with Chemistry

Published

So I'm taking Chemistry as my last core class to apply for my school's ADN program. How it works is, you need four core classes to apply. The four core classes are: Anatomy & Physiology 1 (A&P 1), Psychology 101, English 101, and Chemistry 101. I received As in all but chemistry. I'm taking A&P 2 during the winter session before I hear back from being accepted/rejected by my school.

The problem is, this semester I lost my focus for the first month and a half, skipped classes + some labs, and it started snowballing. I got a 64 on my first chemistry test (which was our "midterm" because we had a lot of days off at the beginning due to holidays and school closings). I just took my 2nd chemistry test and I know I didn't do well on it either. There's only two tests left, test #3 and the department final exam. I didn't do any of the homeworks yet, basically I've been a terrible student this semester. I'm going to talk to my professor on Tuesday to see if I'm able to do anything to bring up my grade but I fear the worst.

Hypothetically speaking if I pulled 90s on my last two exams, I'm not really sure what my grade for the class would be. I finally started coming around back to my old self after having some serious self-evaluations, but I'm afraid what if it's too late and I end up failing chemistry? Then I'm screwed because my application will be rejected and I prolong my process.

It's kind of weird. I feel blessed and cursed at the same time. Blessed because the lady from my school's nursing department told me that there were only 60 applicants this semester for the Nursing program and there's 70 seats. However my coworker who also goes to my school and is doing the LPN to RN bridge program said that I shouldn't fully trust what the lady from the Nursing department said. My coworker told me that maybe the lady from the nursing department didn't inform me about possible wait listed students, or people from other school's that applied (not sure if I can fully trust my coworker either, but she has a point, and I would be a fool to not consider that).

These last few months were a real test for me. My dad had a stroke in August and he's in recovery, I've been taking him to all his doctor's appointments, I broke up with my gf of 2 years because I didn't really see us working out in the long run, I'm dealing with a dwi-a (long story, but I wasn't intoxicated or anything I was just really f***d over by the police+new york court system), college student debt etc..

From here on out until the end of the semester, I'm just going to give it my best, and hope for the best. If I make it out with an A in developmental psych, and a B in Chemistry, I will be more than happy. Sorry for such a long post, I just needed to vent. This chemistry class is really getting to me, I know what I have to do and that's give it my all until the end of the semester. Anyone know of any good readings or tips on how to get back on track for classes, or maintaining motivation and focus?
