Hello everyone,

Just a little bit of information about me. I am a biological science major, Bachelor's in biology to be exact. I have enough classes to have a minor in chemistry and a minor in psych but of course you can't have two minors. So anyways my issue is that i have a very very very low undergraduate gpa. basically the low 2's. YEH i know!!! I've been looking into some options. I see that LPN programs are very helpful. What i want to know is that how important or beneficial would it be for me to get an LPN cert and then apply to RN school? Also i also read online, that private ASN or BSN schools are a easy way in but expensive. Is this true? Im not worried about money. I just need to get in. I want to stay around Ga,SC,NC,KN,TN,FLA,ALA But I will consider anything. Does anyone know of any LPN/BSN/ASN school prefferably accelerated that don't have such a harsh GPA requirement. Private would be fine for me. I heard chamberlain is one of them. I just need something that doesn't have a harsh GPA requirement. Also Does anyone know of any LPN schools that don't have a harsh GPA requirement I am really worried as to what my next step would be. LPN, accelerated BSN, Doing pre-reqs over... etc...:bluecry1:anyone have any advice? I'm all ears. Thank You.

Bummer! I do not know the answer to your question, but I just wanted to wish you good luck, and I hope you'll get some answers here! :)

Thank You very much. I really want this. It's funny I feel like im soo far behind and LOST...hence my username..I see plenty of people on here like me. It feels good to know im not the only one. Are you a nurse already? How did you get through it all? Thanks again! and if ANYONE out there has any advice for me please please take a few seconds to reply to my thread. THANK YOU ALL......

Try Emory, they're private (and therefore slightly easier to get into, at least so I've heard) and have an accelerated BSN program for people who already have degrees. Good luck!

Hello again Lost23. I will share with you and others my "journey." I did not finish high school, had my senior year to go. I was the typical kid from a drunken, violent, abusive home. I was not a good student, but did make it through my junior year. I had two children by the time I was 18. Divorced from an alcoholic/drug addicted, abusive husband by age 21 (what a surprise!). I remarried at age 22, and am still married to the man who was the "real" father to my children (we learned how to love together, and how to have a healthy marriage, but that is another story!). Had another child at age 26. I got a GED about this same time. All along, from my early life, I was interested in medical things, loved to visit hospitals, and dreamed of being a nurse. I took a job in a nursing home to get experience, and became a QMA. When my youngest was two, I started college. I had to enter as a non-traditional/non-degree student, to "prove" to them I could do it. After a few science pre-reqs (I learned that a "c" could be a noble grade!), I was allowed to apply and was accepted to nursing school. Ultimately, it took me 4 years to finish the Associates program, as I had 3 young children, and worked 24-32 hours per week, and commuted 50 minutes to campus. I rarely had a car that ran, so mostly I car-pooled with 3 smokers. I only tell you that, because after the trip to campus, breathing the smoke, I used to throw up in the grass before going in to class. We were dirt poor, and rented a freezing farm house for $35.00/mo. We ate a lot of bologna, potatoes, bread, and popcorn. I was able to get grants and loans. I passed my boards in '82, got a BS in '92, and my MSN in '06. I am the only college graduate in our family. While none of this really answers your original post, I share it with you so that you can see, where there is a will, there really is a way! There are many "testimonials" on this site like mine. I think if you really want this, you will manage to find a way, and I really wish you, and others like you, the best luck!
