Phlebotomy Classes in Michigan

WCCCD has a phlebotomy technician program, through which you can earn a certificate. After earning that, you can become licensed. My mother's currently in her final semester and about to start her clinicals at Herman Keifer [Detroit] in October. The only campus that offers the actual PLB classes is the NorthWest campus in Detroit, though you can take the other required classes, like ALH 110, anywhere they're offered. If you have any questions about their program, I can throw them at her.

Washtenaw CC offers one with their non-credit classes (Lifelong learning). I took it last year and was a great experience! If you're a health professional already (i.e. you have your CNA certification) you can do the month-long class for about half the price. Otherwise it's almost a full semester once a week... which I really liked because of all the practice I got. You'll get a certificate of completion but Michigan doesn't require a license so you don't have to worry about becoming officially certified (unless you move to a state that requires it and not many states do).

I think Monroe CC offers one class once a year, too.

Good point about not needing to be licensed. On the other hand, some companies/employers offer higher wages for licensed phleb techs, so getting licensed might or might not be beneficial to you (the OP, I mean).

Macomb Community College offers a Phlebotomy Certificate, and also has a Continuing Education phlebotomy program with a practicum.

MaryGrove College in Detroit also offers Phlebtomy courses. If I recall correctly the courses are 6wks each for beginners and advanced. They also have a course to prepare for certification.

I see this is an old post, but I wanted to share that Lansing Community College has a program. However, I work at Ingham Regional Medical Center and they just laid off like 30 phlebotomists (yes 30, it may have been more than that). So, I guess I wouldn't bank on that for experience. I took the initial training in like 2005 and I could never get into the externship through LCC b/c they fill up so quickly. So, needless to say that was a waste of time. However, hospitals are looking to upgrade their CNA's to require EKG and phleb experience. So, if you're going the CNA route it could be a good idea. I think the additional hands on phleb training will help me in the long run w/starting IV's and such as a nurse, being that I get into a program of course.
