Outstanding Prerequisites and choice of accelerated programs

Hi everyone!

I've already completed my B.A. in Politics and Public Health; however, I've recently decided with my doula work and maternal and newborn health data analysis background that I would like to pursue nurse midwifery paired with an MPH.

I am in the U.S. Peace Corps now and will complete in March 2014. I have signed up for statistics and developmental psychology online to be completed in May, but I still have many prereqs to finish for most accelerated programs (mostly Microbiology, A&P I-II, General Chemistry).

Here is what I'm deciding between that I would really appreciate some feedback from some seasoned nurses (aspiring or otherwise) in the field:

1) An RN friend recommended that if I know what I'd like to specialize in, it would be best to do the BSN to MSN accelerated option so I can do some of the prereqs after admission. Are there schools that allow this? It seems like most want the prereqs completed before admission.

2) Is it best to sign up for the prereqs at a community college for the next year (summer and winter), which may take an extra year and delay my plans of certifying in nurse midwifery? Potential problems being competition against other local students, delay in pursuing masters/certification, and the longer I am away from my current positions, the harder it may be to get recommendations.

Are there other options?
