organization

Hi all, I am a new grad nurse and would like some tips on how to organize my day better. I feel as though I forget little things, such as hanging an antibiotic at two, because I forgot , or lost track of time at one. I want to be a good nurse, and I have really only been on the floor for 6 days now. Is this a normal occurence when starting? Please advise.... Thanks

When you are new, it can be very overwhelming and easy to forget things. Getting yourself organized is crucial. If your unit has one, use a worsheet. If not, make one yourself and photocopy it for each day. Catagorize items and list each in it's own section. For example, one section for all of your ivs, one section for meds, another for tracking the charting that needs done, another for vital signs, blood sugars. As each thing is done, check it off. With a worksheet, you have a summary of what needs to be done at a glance. It should help you organize your day better. Good luck.
