Ob and Peds

Hello all...I just finished med surge 1 and will be starting Ob and Peds in the fall........Can anyone tell me what Ob and Peds is like????..........Any input would be helpful....Thanks in advance.

Lots and lots of family-centered care. Especially in peds, you should expect that the parents will be there and they will expect you to share information, explanations, reassurance, teaching, and so on. I don't think I had a peds patient at all whose parents were not there.

Ob is similar, you're caring for the significant other a lot of the time in addition to the laboring mom and her baby. I saw some unbelievable drama among my patients in Ob, though, and honestly it's probably the happiest place in the hospital the very large majority of the time. That can be a lot of fun.
