Nursing School Interview

Hi!! I got an interview with Concordia University for their ABSN program. I am super excited, but very nervous. The interview is going to be 4 hours long. I was wondering if anyone has had an interview like this, or has had to interview for a nursing school. What type of questions might they ask? Any information will help. Thank you!! :)

4 Hours long!? First of all, that is INSANE. Do you have any previous healthcare or volunteer experiences that you can talk about? I know that even my very minor bit of volunteering at a free clinic saved me in my interview. At some point, they will ask you why you think you will make a good nurse. I don't remember exactly what I said, but I do remember looking them straight in their eyes and saying that "I know that I will be an excellent nurse." For some reason, I think that impressed them, lol. Also, I highly recommend wearing a suit; I think it gives you a leg up in an interview and lets the interviewers know that you give a darn and that you're taking the interview seriously. Btw, Dillards is also having a sale right now on a lot of their suits. ;)

Thank you so much for the response and tips! Yes I have a suit that I am going to. Wear for the interview....I have very little volunteer hours but I will talk about what I can with that. What kind of questions were you asked when interviewing? And scenario type questions? I'm so nervous, I want this really bad! :)

Play up your volunteer experiences...especially experiences involving people from different cultures, ages, and economic stratas. I'm serious; I think that was half my interview. Did I tell them that I had only volunteered "a little" after school when the free clinic was open. Heck no - I played that baby up! My point is that you already know that you're going to make a fantastic nurse. Now is just the time to stay confident and let them see that. My questions that I remember from my interview:

1) Tell us a little about yourself...

2) How do you think that your prior degree will be an asset to you as a nurse?

3) Why do you think that you will make a good nurse?

4) Do you have a good understanding of A&P and pathophysiology? Explain. (I was a tutor and lab tech, so that helped)

5) Tell us about a time in which you were ethically challenged. (I know...)

6) Tell us about your greatest accomplishement to date.

7) Tell us about a time in which you failed. (I know...)

8) What is your greatest strength that you believe you can bring to this program?

9) What is your greatest weakness? (and how have you overcome it?)

10) Tell us about your experience working with other cultures and ethnicities.

11) Tell us about your experiences working with patients of different ages through the lifetime continuum.

12) Tell us about your experiences working with patients of various economical backgrounds.

13) Do you have reliable transportation? (i.e. a car)

14) Do you know and agree that it will be virtually impossible to complete this program while holding down a job? That being said, are you willing and able to take out student loans, etc. as opposed to trying to split your time between work and study?

I also think they enjoyed anything "teaching" related. I hope this helps! Mabybe at least it will get your mind into "interview mode." Good luck and keep us posted!!
