Which NP certification exam did you write? ANCC or AANP?
Which review books/ tools did you find it most helpful in preparing for the NP certification exam?
I am a FNP student. Getting a little anxious re: the certification exam which I plan to write in the summer 2008. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I did the ANCC for both degrees (GNP/FNP). Sorry, but I honestly cannot answer the 2nd part of your question...it's been so long, I don't remember what I used.

1) I took the AANP Adult Certification Boards- I was on the fence on which certifying body to take my boards from. The AANP is a little cheaper on the exam fee..and they only certify Adult and Family. AANC is a bigger certifying body that certifies Adult, Family, Acute ,Gero, etc..
I like how the AANP represents only NPs ...I suggest looking at the respective websites for more information.
2) I'm a new NP...so I just took the boards earlier this summer. Everybody seems to like Fitzgerald's exam review. I bought the review book and the review CDs which helped immensely.
I also bought another review book by Joann Zerwekh, this book had difficult questions but it really made me study and I passed the exam no problem. It's impossible to know everything, but for me having two different review books helped me prepare. I would do a search on NP review books on amazon.com and also do a dissucssion search on allnureses on AANC and AANP exams.
Good Luck!
Thank you for responding to my post! I'm not sure whether to take the AANP or AANC. It's not like one test is "easier" than the other, right? Were the Fitzgerald's exam review tapes helpful? I'm thinking of buying that too instead of taking the course.
Do you currently practice as a NP? FNP or ANP? I see that you are from Boston MA as well. I guess before I worry about the board exam, I should focus on actually graduating. I'm having hard time finding a OB/GYN and pedi clinical placement for next semester.
Thank you again! Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes..the Fitzgerald review CDs were very helpful..I recommend them.
I wouldn't worry too much about the boards now..I would concentrate on your remaining semester, enjoy or try to extract as much as you can from the grad school experience, ie..network your clinical mentors/preceptors..they'll help you out after graduation. Boston is kind of tough NP market to crack, there are lots of NP students in the area.
Anyways..yes..I'm an adult NP ..working in primary care for people with severe disabilities, so far the job is pretty cool...the patients are awesome!
