NHC-CNA Training Course

Published

I start this course on the 20th in Hendersonville, TN and was wondering if anyone else has taken their CNA courses at NHC. It is a 3 week course absolutely free except for the book which is $45. I was just wanting some info on what to expect going in. The classes are from 8:30-4:30 M-F and we have to wear white scrubs every day.

Again, any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm from Texas but I can tell you that CNA classes are all mostly Common Sense :D You should do fine and Ummm White Scrubs? They are so Wrong for that !!

I started working at the veterans home in Knoxville with a girl who had taken the CNA course at NHC in Hendersonville. She said she really liked it, and it was nice that all her clinicals were done with the same group of people, rather than switching facilities every day like we did with the Red Cross.

You're right on both points! I'm in clinicals and I have to wear white scrub pants. Yea, thats fun, NOT! LOL!

We had to wear white scrubs too. I was so mad!

Just found out this past week that she hires 5 out of the class. There are 11 of us. She also informed us that if I get hired, then they will pay for all of my RN school loans. As long as I work for them for 2 years. I defientely thinking about it.

Specializes in LTC.

Wow that sounds like a REALLY good deal! Definitely go for it!

Hi TNMommy,

I was in your Microbiology class ... I'm sorry I didn't get your contact info. I have an interview at NHC on Monday and was hoping that you could give me your opinion on working there and going to nursing school. I thought it would look good on my resume and give me some experience but I'm not sure what to expect with school (I will be attending Cumberland in the Spring). What do you think?

Hey there,

Are you going for an interview for the class or for a job? In either case, working as a tech is a great way of getting experience in the healthcare world. You will be able to practice your fundamental skills while working as a tech. If you work in the skilled side, you will have an opportunity to gain experience with many med/surg practices. Working on ICF (long-term care), you really are just doing basic care. I have been able to gain alot from watching my RN on the skilled side. To be able to work on the skilled side, you really need to ask for 12 hour shifts because the ICF side are 8 hour shifts.

I only work 1 day a week now. I could work more, but I wanted to have time for my family and school. I work Sunday nights from 7p-7a. So far, work has not gotten in the way of school. Plus at night it is slower and I have more time to study.

I really want to work in the hospital setting, so when I am on break either winter or summer, I am going to apply for a nurse extern position somewhere. Anyway, let me know how it goes for you. Have you already been accepted at Cumberland? Jennifer is coming to Columbia State in the spring too. It will be nice to have someone there that I knew from Vol State.

I am interviewing for the class tomorrow. I signed up back in July and was disappointed there was such a long wait. I am currently taking Nutrition and Psychology classes now and would love to work weekend evenings to gain experience and make a little money :specs:

It will be awesome for Jen to have you a semester ahead of her - you will be a big help! I just found out last week that I was accepted at Cumberland (same day I received the phone call from Nicole). I have a BS already so it will only take me an additional semester than you guys to graduate with another. In case we should move back to NJ, I wanted to be prepared because I have heard that nurses may be required to have bachelors and one of my in-law's said that her company in PA let go all their nurses who didn't have one. I wish that tuition was as low as Columbia's but am hopeful that the loan forgiveness programs here are good when I graduate.

Good luck! Hopefully I run into you one of these days at NHC.

Hello. I was hoping to take CNA training classes at NHC soon but I have a very busy schedule. Do CNA classes at all NHC's only last 3 weeks? I'd really appreciate the help. Also, I just made my account on here so...you know, I might be a little slow to respond! Lol:) Thank ya, thank ya! Hope ya'll can help me! :yeah:

Hi WJHolland!

I am not sure about all NHC facilities but in Hendersonville the class does last for three weeks from 8-4 every day. It usually takes a few months to get into the program because it is free and so many people are interested in it (you do have to buy a book and a white uniform). The woman who runs the classes here is currently on maternity leave so I am not sure if the classes will be running in her absence. For anyone who finishes their first semester in nursing school, you can challenge the class time and then just take the written and skills portion of the test ... that is what I did. Good luck!
