newgrad

As a new grad i'm wondering if you recommend hospital nursing to get experience. I'm not sure I want to be on a med-surg floor. Anyone take another route?

i'm a new grad too, and i chose to work on an acute med unit. but i have lots of friends doing other things, such as L&D, ER, CRCU, ICU, and NICU. it depends on where your interests lie. some units wont take you if you dont have a year of experience, others are more inclined to take on new grads. apply where you want and if they tell you that you need a year of experience first, get that year and reapply.

my goal is to transfer to the ER in my hospital in about a year. i cant do it right now because the hospital i work at is the major trauma center for the city so they require a year of med-surg experience.

Im a new grad and I'm starting in PostPartum to get my feet wet in hospital nursing. I don't care too much for Med-surg either.

I think i want something slower paced. I'm a little worried about patient load and pt. acuity, but i do want the cllinical and organizational skills.

thats how I feel too. Plus as an 'older' new nurse, I know I don't have it in me to run as fast as some of the younger new grads.

How about an Urgent Care clinic? You'll still see and learn a lot, but the pace isn't so crazy.
