New to this-? on VB rn programs

Hello, all. Glad I found this site. I was curious if anyone can help me with a few questions. Does the MCI RN program have a night option? and has anyone graduated yet?

Also, does anyone know about the Sentara program offering to pay your tuition if you sign to work there for a few years? Has anyone done that?

MCI-VB does have an evening/weekend option in which involves both evenings and some weekends. I think they market it as an evening program, but it has involved some weekend shifts for certain clinicals for some students. They are graduating their first class this spring. Whether their grads will do well on the boards and whether or not they will be able to succeed in the work force will take a couple of years to establish.

Yes, Sentara does offer tuition benefits in exchange for a work committment. Financially, it's a good deal -- but be sure to read the fine print about the nature of the committment you would be making. You might find that you don't want to work for them after graduation ... or that you won't be able to work the specialty or shift that you want to prefer ... or something like that. Some people have signed such contracts and been happy with them... but others have not liked being "chained" to a specific employer who knows they don't have to keep the nurse happy to make her stay. Think that decision through carefully. You might want to do a search of this board on that topic.

The reason I am torn is because I have to work and go to school at the same time. It would be hard for me to quit my job because it is perfect. I work four days a week and my boss is very flexible.

Also, I would have to take the the pre-reqs for Sentara, and from what I have heard MCI has them built in. So, yes it is cheaper, but I would still have to pay for a few semesters at TCC to do pre-reqs, and timing wise it would take me much longer.

I am a new RN student at the Newport News campus and the pre-reqs and the program are seperate. I did 2 pre-req classes with MCI prior to the RN program starting (I was able to test out the third one). Getting accepted into the RN program is dependent on completion of the pre-reqs whether you do them there or have them transfer. In summary, I had 10 weeks of pre-reqs which is seperate time from the 15 month program.

I did their optional online chemistry course and only went in once a week for lab and quiz/test. I tested out on the math so I'm not sure about that and the computer class was twice a week from 8 a.m. -1 p.m.

Ok, so the prereqs are not actually part of the program, that makes more sense:lol2:. I was starting to wonder if they make you guys sleep there:idea: :lol2:
