Hey,
Just wanted to introduce myself to fellow La. nurses. I live near New Orleans. I'm an older "new grad" (51 next month) I've been working as an LPN for the past 4 1/2 yrs...doing injections in an ambulatory infusion center. I've also helped with infusions when needed. I graduated from Charity School of Nursing Dec. 2010, and don't have an RN position yet.
When I went back to school 3yrs ago, I expected to work in the infusion room; but that position is not available at this time. I'm applying for several positions in my hospital, and other places; but nothing yet. I'm beginning to second guess my decision to go back to school.
I had a phone interview with Davita Dialysis that seemed to go very well; but after reading posts on this website, I'm afraid to work there if they do offer me the job. The two types of places I would really like to work would be Mother/baby/labor/delivery or an infusion room. Ambulatory surgery also interests me. So far, I haven't had any success in finding those jobs. I have another interview next week on a GI short stay unit in the hospital I work for now. I don't really know what it's like to work on that floor, but I think I will take the job if offered, just because I need something.
Any suggestions for a new RN would be appreciated.

Congrats for getting your RN. I'm a level III CSN student. You are farther along than me, but I just think the job opportunities has to do with the market. Just keep applying and remind yourself that job hunting is a job in itself. I see so many positions available at the different hospitals for RN's and you do have LPN experience. You will get something. Just play the numbers game and keep applying. Keep us up to date. Good Luck!
Thanks, su9032,
Good luck at CSN. I know a few people in that class. How are you doing? What teachers do you have?
hgorrondona,
Thanks, I'm doing fine in my classes and have learned a lot, but I'm exhausted. I'm currently in MH and then I will just have NACII in the fall. I can't mention my clinical instructors name on here, but she is the only adjunct.
Sorry,
I didn't realize we couldn't name names. I did my MH clinicals at EJ in the evenings. I really liked my instructor. Good Luck!
