I just graduated from an LPN program and have not taken my boards yet. The nursing homes in my city (Valdosta) don't hire until you've taken the boards. However, I did apply at a nursing home in another county and got a phone call back for an interview, which is on Tuesday. However, I'm a bit nervous that maybe they didn't see the part on my application that said I wasn't licensed yet. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it's a Georgia law that LPNs must be licensed to work in nursing homes, or if they can work as graduates. I know here you can work in the hospitals as a grad. I'm thinking maybe each nursing home has their own policies? I don't know, actually, which is why I'm asking here
Thanks!

First, welcome to allnurses.
Second, I'm not positive, but I believe that it is GA law that you must have a license first. They use to issue temporay licenses to graduate nurses; however, that was when it took forever to get your real license. Now you just take the NCLEX and your license appears on the GA BON's website in a week. I am an RN and I know that my fellow graduates all could not work as a licensed nurse until after we actually got a license. We were all hired; we just could not work as RNs until we passed the NCLEX. Anyway, best of luck to you on your NCLEX!!!
Sincerely,
Jay
