New NCP selectees!

Published

Congrats to all the NCP selectees!

For all the NCP selectees:

1) Can you give a brief rundown of the NCP application process?

2) What's your profile? (GPA? Who your references are? Work experience? Etc.)

3) Was there an interview? If so, do you have any tips for success?

4) How long after submitting your package did you hear of selection?

5) What area of the country are you in? (Ex: Navy Region Southwest)

Any info is greatly appreciated! And thank you for sharing!!! :D

Well...

1) First you talk to a recruiter, you'll fill out LOTS of paperwork. You'll need to send in transcripts and they'll set you up to go to MEPS. After you get what is called your 'packet' done ( and have two officer interviews) and go to MEPS, you will just have to wait to hear if you've been "professionally reccomended for the program" and you'll also have to be cleared medically. Then you'll wait for your final selection letter to be enlisted to the program and start getting paid.

2) Work experience is null. It doesn't matter at all. I personally had a 3.7 gpa, but only a 3.0 is required. my references were my pastor ( a retired lieutenant commander) and various employers or teachers. I turned in 4 but only 2 were required.

3) I had two interviews. It so happened that two of my professors we're retired navy and were able to do my interviews. Be yourself, be professional, be honest and don't be cheesy. Dress nicely, show you're serious and don't be afraid to ask questions.

4) About a month. They do boards every two weeks or so. But it was 2 months after selection that I got my final selection letter telling me I was eligible to sign on June 1st.

5) I am in Florida, but the program is nationwide and it doesn't matter what region you're in. For instance they don't have to spread the selectees evenly over the states. First come first serve.
