New MDS changes

Is anyone else blown away with the MDS changes that are proposed go into affect October 2016 with this new section Section GG. Functional Abilities and Goals. What a nightmare.

Actually, rehab hospitals (like HealthSouth) have started having to do MDS like reports using the Functional Abilities and Goals. It means if we want to play with the big kids and get paid like the pros, we have to meet the same standards. The whole team has to be involved, the way the MDS was originally intended to be. And documentation has to improve. We chart like nursing homes of the 70s and expect to get paid like Rehab hospitals of the 21st century.

Oh, Lordy, ain't it the truth! I am the only full time MDS nurse at my 163 bed LTC. There is one part-time MDS nurse working three days a week. We have recently converted to EHR and the charting is worse instead of better! I'm pulling my hair out trying to convince my DON (who is old-school LTC and has never done MDS herself and so has a limited knowledge base of the entire process) that MAC and RAC audits will get worse, not better.
