Hello everyone:
I am a new member to the International Nursing Forum.....and very excited to be a part of an online nursing community that is both dynamic and diverse.
A little about me:
Firstly, I am from the Bahamas - a group of islands about 183 miles southeast of Florida....
Last year, I completed my Bachelor degree in Accounting at a university in South Florida....graduated with distinction (3.98 GPA) and at the top of my undergraduate class . Immediately upon graduating, I enrolled in an Accelerated BSN at a university in Miami.
I needed to do 10 nursing prerequisites -- and completed them (with a 4.00 GPA) during the Fall/07 and Spring/08 semesters.
Three weeks ago, I was officially accepted into the Accelerated Nursing program, which will begin in August.
During the past 10 years, I was employed within the banking field..but decided it was time for a career change. I felt a change into Nursing would be both exciting and rewarding.
Initially, I was kind of skeptical about getting into Nursing simply because I am a male -- an employment field with almost 95% females (almost 99% females in the Bahamas). But when I really thought about it, during my tenure in the financial field, almost 90% of my coworkers were females :chuckle
Although most of you on this form are really (1) working RNs and (2) concerned about immigration issues -- I hope you all welcome me as I share what takes place in my Nursing classes.....As a nursing student, I am open and willing to learn from each of you...
Regards,
