as compared to decerebrate.

It is called decorticate posturing.

one way that made it easy for me to remember which was which (decorticate v. decerebrate) is to think decorticate=towards the heart. this is also a better sign than decerebrate, btw. the above also helped me in remembering that...since you are still "protecting" your heart, that means this is a better outcome.

cute way of remembering it! :) i always remember it because it's like you're being wrapped up with a "cord'.
and, yes it is slightly better than decerebrating, but let's face it, if you start doing either....you've got serious problems!!!
another thing to keep in mind is that a neuro pt. can do both at the same time, can do both within seconds of each other, etc. i'll never forget the first time i saw that!
