Decorticate posture?

as compared to decerebrate.

It is called decorticate posturing.

one way that made it easy for me to remember which was which (decorticate v. decerebrate) is to think decorticate=towards the heart. this is also a better sign than decerebrate, btw. the above also helped me in remembering that...since you are still "protecting" your heart, that means this is a better outcome.

cute way of remembering it! :) i always remember it because it's like you're being wrapped up with a "cord'.

and, yes it is slightly better than decerebrating, but let's face it, if you start doing either....you've got serious problems!!!

another thing to keep in mind is that a neuro pt. can do both at the same time, can do both within seconds of each other, etc. i'll never forget the first time i saw that! :eek:
