Needle Prick

I am a school nurse. Today I got pricked by a needle after I gave an 8 year old student their insulin injection. I washed my hands immediately. I was sent by the district to an approved urgent care center where the doctor refused to do a blood test saying that my risk of contracting something from this student was incredibly low. He told me to relax and basically forget about it.

I have been in this job for several years, and this is the first time anything like this happened. While what the doctor said may be right, I was so upset because it physically hurt and because of the mental toll this took on me. Wondering if any of you experienced something similar? Should I ask this student's parents if they have any specific medical history I should be concerned about? They seem to be a good family.
