Needing Advice

Hello!

I am new to this site, but I was reading through the blogs and they are SO helpful! Thanks to everyone who replies.

My dilemma is this: I am a CNA but have never actually worked as one. I graduated from my CNA class about a year and a half ago (loved it!), but due to schooling and family issues I have been unable to put my education to use. A CNA position in a surgical trauma unit just opened up at the hospital near me and I would really love to give it a try. However, I am worried that due to the length of time between my schooling/clinicals and this job I am unsure as to whether I will still be qualified and able to do the job. When we were doing clinicals while I was a student, I didn't really work in this unit, so I am also rather unsure of myself.

Any suggestions? I have absolutely no problems with re-studying (I am looking at all my old school books).

Just looking for some advice and possibly some encouragement.

You might not even be certified anymore. In my state you have to work at least 8 hours of paid CNA work per year to maintain your certification.

By me you have two years before you have to retest, but that's in Wisconsin. I worked in an Assisted Living home for a year and forgot how to do a lot of the Hoyers and such, they refreshed me in training and now I'm doing great at a new job.

It is 2 years where I am as well, could you possibly do some volunteer work at your local hospital, or hospice center to sort of "shadow" the workers? that may help you. If that isn't possible you should always be able to take a refresher course at your community college. Good luck.
