NCLEX 2017

Published

I recently graduated on May 13, 2017 from IU School of Nursing. My school required ATI throughout our program. We were required to take the Exams for each category in ATI (med-surg, maternal NB, pharm, etc.). At the end of the program, we were required to green light through ATI in preparation for the NCLEX exam. I GL on May 7, 2017 and received a 98% chance go passing the NCLEX on the first try. Once you achieve the GL status, ATI recommends that you take the NCLEX within 3 weeks. That DID NOT happen for me!! I was moving to a different state and had to wait on GA BON to send my ATT. They sent my ATT on May 31, 2017. I decided to enroll in the Kaplan live course to keep me fresh on studying and another source just to be over prepared. I attended the Live Kaplan course May 15-18. I personally did not get anything out of it and most of my classmates never came back after the 1st day. They teach you how to answer questions using the decision tree and that is it!! A 4 day course going over questions with the instructor and other students using the decision tree. NO CONTENT WHATSOEVER! I completed those longggg 4 days because I wanted my money back bc Kaplan has a pass guarantee! I also completed the diagnostic, QT 1-7, readiness exam, and about 50 questions from the 1300 question Q Bank. My scores were:

Diagnostic- 57%1-53%

2-55%

3-57%

4-52%

5-66%

6-57%

7-53%

Readiness- 65%

Kaplan recommends a 65% on QT 1-5 and 60% on QT 6 and 7. As you can see, I did not get the recommended scores. As long as you are closer to 60% than 50% I would not worry! I was over studying and questions!! I was drained and I took about 2 weeks off doing absolutely nothing! When my ATT came I was not ready an I scheduled my exam for June 21 to give myself time to study! I have not received my official results yet, but I got the good pop up through the PVT! Glory be to GOD!!

This post was made specifically for you future RNs out there getting ready to take NCLEX and looking for some type of hope! I wasn't the top student in my class. I was a slacker not very good at studying as much as i should have through school. I lacked a lot in content bc of my poor study habits, but I made it through nursing school! That is the hard part! This test at the end is just a test that can be taken multiple times until you pass it! Have confidence in YOU! In prep for NCLEX, you have to make SACRIFICES to STUDY!! I recommend doing questions everyday! That is all I did! I did not go back to the books I did questions and looked at the rationales! Most of my exam was prioritization! You have to know what patient to see first! Good luck everyone, and know that all things work for the good of those that love the lord!!
