navy nurses

What is the difference between what an enlisted nurse does and what an officier nurse does? Is there any difference. Do the enlisted go on ships? I read a thread the other day where a girl said her friend (a girl) was stationed on a ship for 6 months and she was wondering when she would go too. I didn't think nurses went on ships?

Another question about your "dream sheet". If the navy is going to send you where they need you or want you, why do we "pick" where we would like to go, if we really don't get to go there? Maybe I'm just missing sonething??

In the Navy we have no enlisted nurses, that's only in the Army, they have LPNs. In the Navy all nurses must be BSN and are commissioned officers. As for going on ships, officers go to, but as a nurse your choices of ships is limited. Most ships are too small and don't require a nurse, they use corpsmen and IDCs. The ships you will find nurses on are carriers and you generally have to be higher ranking and volunteer to go on them. Now that doesn't mean you won't go on one as a deployment, that's different. Most deployments in the Navy are 6 months to 1 year, that's probably what they were talking about. As for the dream sheet question, welcome to the Navy. You fill it out in hopes that you get where you want to go, you do make 3 choices on it, so if you get one of the 3 the Navy considers you "getting what you wanted." It's truly semantics, but that's how it goes.

OK, Thanks Dan. I guess it's easy to get confused as to which branch one is talking about in all of the differnt threads that are going on here. Thanks for clearing things up for me.
