That helps just a question do they pay alot more if you work weekends. Its really hard trying to get a job out here. but don't want to settle for alot less just to get a job. I'm in Chaska

I'm not sure about other areas of MN, but here in Duluth, for acute care hospital nsg, your options are limited, but the starting pay is fair. I think the inexperienced nurse starts around $22-23/hr. I have 4+ yrs and my base is $26.69 with a 5% increase retroactive to july 04 which will be in effect when we finish negotiations (MNA district 2 union). We don't have weekend only positions here, most people work every other. Differentials are low, straight nocs $2/hr, eve/noc $1.50, weekend $1. The other consideration is there is not a nursing shortage up here, not that there are no jobs available, but there are few. Shifts generally are 8hr day/night, day/eve, or straight nights, no straight days. 12 hr shift are day/noc or straight noc and are limited to er or icu at both major hospitals here (St. Luke's and St. Mary's/Duluth Clinic). Overall job satisfaction has been good, most of our nurses are very experienced avg 6-10 yrs and many over 15-20. Both are teaching hospitals. Hope this helps.

Surprisingly enough, the hospital wages are about the same in Duluth as they are in the Cities.
